As part of a recent last-ditch campaign to make my current rig last a bit longer before I buy a new motherboard and cpu (and, eventually, a whole new comp) I've taken an old 60GB hard drive from my cupboard of computer bits and hooked it up to increase storage. However, several issues are apparent:
1. Although I have a 400w PSU, startup reports that the floppy drive isn't detected. It's still present in My Computer, but coupled with another warning that said my 'Nvidia graphics card isn't receiving enough power', I'm guessing this means the HD is sucking too much power. The other things I have connected are a DVD drive, a CD-RW drive, the 120GB HD, the 7600GS graphics card...
2. The disk is partitioned into 3 sections; 1 is called MS-DOS, is FAT32 and is 2GB, the other 2 are 27.5 GB and are NTFS. I want to re-combine the disks, so how do I do this? I've formatted them already.
Ok, second thing is that as I was checking what was connected to my PSU, I realised that one of the things that isn't actually connected is my 7600GS - I must have forgotten to connect it while installing it. Previously, when this card was installed my comp would hang after playing a game for a while. I've put this down to a dodgy motherboard, although the GeForce 4 I've been using as a backup works fine. I've just played Doom3 for the past 6 hours with no problems at all. Exactly how does this make any sense? Surely the power is kind of necessary? Why does the problem STOP when it isn't connected to the PSU?
