www.Slashdot.org wrote: Minnesota trekker writes "Two Minnesota fans of the original "Star Trek" series spent seven years, off and on, creating an all-new episode in the 1960s style using their own actors, sets and props. Behold, the U.S.S. Exeter (www.starshipexeter.com). The episode's look and feel is amazingly authentic. The story is inventive and the acting surprisingly good. The damn thing, dubbed "The Savage Empire," is actually watchable. The site gives lots of details on how the episode was created, and even more background is available on the Pioneer Press site."

If it's actually watchable, then they've outdone the expensive cast and crew of Voyager.

I downloaded the first 22MB part and the effects aren't too shabby for homebrew, obviously they're no ILM but it's not bad. I'll have to get the next part before passing judgement on the acting.

Dude that first part is only the intro (couple minutes of yakking then the music and flying ship). There's been no battles for red shirts to die in yet.

This isn't the only fan spinoff. Hidden Frontier seems to have dropped off the net for the moment but they've done several seasons of TNG/DS9-era sort-of-Trek.

NTM Enterprise. Having watched the first part of "A Night in Sickbay," I suddenly gained new appreciation for the people in "Airplane" who were killing themselves because listening to the gentleman tell his story was so boring.
