where on your computer can you find information telling you how hot it runs

It'd be helpful if you could post some more information regarding your computer, like motherboard maker, but SiSoftSandra has a snapshot tempature viewer. Nearly all motherboard makers have their own streaming utility.

Speedfan can draw info from all the sensors on your system and plot/save the results. GPU manufactures usually have temp loggers for their hardware too.

MBM 5 but it hasn't been updated since 2k4!. I had to put a -25°C bias on the sensor for the secondary hard drive (60gig Maxtor from the New Orleans Age). I think I need to find a more modern replacement for MBM anyway.

ASUS PC Probe II will tell him what he needs to know. To get, go to Asus.com, select your region, click on downloads, and then select your product type (motherboard), socket type and model number. The software will be in the utilities section of your results. Right now there site seems to be having trouble, so I can't give you a direct link.

Also, for CPU temperatures, I'd suggest using CoreTemp, since it reads the sensor directly on the CPU (Asus and most other software report the temp from a sensor on the motherboard, under the CPU socket, which can be off by as much as 10 or 15 degrees C).

Coretemp requires that there be a CPU temp diode on the die. I don't think the P4s have that.

It looks like you're right - P4s aren't on the supported CPU list.

Speedfan 4.32 supports reading from the DTS anyway, and it has much more functionality than CoreTemp.
