Yes. Beat 'em, too.
It's Rogue, not Rouge!

I never had a problem with killing Rebel fighters, even in unshielded craft- you just need to know to yank the stick hard and keep it that way for a few seconds as soon as your threat indicator lights up. It's the wreckage of their fighters when you kill them at close range that sucks.

Thinking of reenacting some of the 'canon' achievements, such as that (perhaps with a disabled allied shuttle for accuracy), or TIE Bomber dogfighting with X-Wings, A-Wings, and three waves of Lambda shuttles (perhaps while guarding a Delta-class stormie transport)...

If I find it too easy, try it with a touchpad?

Ahhh...believe it or not, but when I beat TIE Fighter for the first time (ah, the memories...) I was using a mouse :) You can easily guess that I broke one or two while serving the Emperor...

Just know that it was for a good cause. Protecting the Emperial (or whatever that really weird combination of "Empire" and "Imperial" was on the back of my collector's CD box...) citizens from those ruthless Rebel savages.

Same re: the mouse! Kudos, Tolya! (A pity TIE Fighter for Windows apparently doesn't allow it without the joystick...)

And protecting the Empire from the jerk who wrongly accused me of being a snitch...
