New Star Wars game titled, detailed.

Post by Vendetta »

Gamespot

Since it worked for TIE Fighter, it looks like we're getting another chance to work in the service of the Empire. This time hunting down filthy Jedi in the period between RotS and ANH.

Xbox and PS3 versions announced so far.

Still, I haven't bought a Lucasarts game since their editorial fuckwittery castrated KotOR2, and I still want a lightsaber game for the Wii dammit!

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

Post by Darth Fanboy »

This is about the upcoming PS3/XBOX 360 game. But This game is covering a lot of plot concerns which made me feel it would be more PSW.

The cover the latest Game informer magazine has Darth Vader arms crossed whiledown below an invidiual with a red lightsaer force pushes away a half dozen stormtroopers.

For this game the Lucasarts developers are actually doing something that fans want and are exploring the territory between RoTS and ANH.

The protagonist has been identified as an apprentice to Darth Vader, who Vader is keeping secret from the Emperor.
It is true players will control an original character, but the missions of Darth Vader's secret apprentice won't be peripheral distractions; they will define this era in the galaxy.
A toy line, comic book, and novel will eventually accompany. The article goes on to say that the missions will be about assassinating specific targets, mostly Jedi.

One of the character sketches included in the article is Shaak Ti. Another sketch has her leading four rancors with Jedi riders into battle against Vader's as yet unnamed apprentice.

According to this article, and because some of this information has come from Lucasarts, it is clear that as of the end of RoTS, Shaak Ti has survived Order 66. Which shocked me.
Some of the Jedi that the apprentice will hunt downare recognizeable movie chracters, like Shaak Ti, while others were created specifically for this project, like General Kota. Who else is still around for the Apprentice to kill? There are a handful of Force-using characters (many from Expanded Universe content) that are still alive at the end of Episode III, and therefore potentional targets. Some of the coolest are Quinlan Vos, Ferus Olin, The Dark Woman, and Asajj Ventress.
This has great potential.

Another damn silly Star Wars console game... I'll pass.

Most Star Wars console games suck.

So is this like, the third time this game's been announced? I swear that I heard about it first at E3 2K6, then again in last Fall.

You can scratch The Dark Woman off of that list:

She gets killed in a beautifully drawn lightsabre duel with Vader himself, in one of the SW:Tales issues, and yes, that's been confirmed as canon. So no Dark Woman, unless she lives by the end of it.

Although the thought of yet another Dark Jedi/Sith apprentice initially grated me somewhat, in-universe it makes perfect sense, since Vader at the time thinks his entire family is dead, so no biological heir. Might as well plan for the future this way.

I have that copy of Star Wars Tales, but I had to include it for the quote to be accurate.

Article makes it clear that this is definitely a scheme by Vader to dethrone his master. The possibility exists that your character may fight Palpatine in an Ep III (the game) style finale that gives out an alternate ending that is non canon.

This is fairly encouraging, and works much better than my theories on the game's plot given the gameplay samples they've shown. It makes a lot more sense for a dark side apprentice to bash troopers to death against walls and tear up city blocks than it does fugitive Jedi.

I remember a trailer being released showing a Jedi going a bit Berserker against airborne TIE's, is this the same one again?

I could find one, but since i'm actually using my hardcopy magazine I admit to not having one right away.

Here is one to start.

Thanks. Lucasarts has this as a big thing now. However, I can't fully access the menu on the left... :?

EDIT: I looked at the concept art of Shaak-Ti (I can't say that I approve bringing her back to life again, but hey...) etc. and one thing struck me... The lack of clothes on the female characters.

From the Lucasarts page, looks like VSDs being the largest atmosphere-capable ships is gone now :)

Actually, if you read the new GameInformer with the exclusive, this game looks really dang good. It might be false hype, but the new physics stuff in there...they're using that stuff demoed for the Indiana Jones game at E3, so Stormtroopers will actually try to grab on to ledges or outcroppings when they fall, and force attachs will smash the environment and send opponents flying, not just knock them down.

Screenshots are pretty impressive, and the story sounds interesting. They're bringing characters who were left over from Episode 3 and characters from the EU; for example, you have to kill off Shaak Ti and Asajji Ventress...:D

There's been instances of ISDs in atmospheres ever since Dark Empire II, but this really shows it close to the ground. Holy shit, is it big. :P

According to the old Hyperspace blurb for each pic, that's Naboo it's flying over. Guess the Emperor loves his old pad so much he just had to show it in style.

Oh, and based on the Hasbro figure showcase, Vader's gonna lose his mask and helmet and pieces of his armor. Again.
I think that's the third instance of that happening to him (First being a picture in SW:Visionaries, and the second was in SW:Purge, with his mask slashed).

The first piece of concept art, with the Star Destroyer floating over the city, has "Holy Shit" written all over it.

True, but at least they're not completely new to SW, there was a Black Sun bodyguard who used them in a fight with Darth Maul in one of his comic stories.

There's also a Shadow Guard in this game (think inverted Royal Guard colorscheme). They use an überwankish lightstaff/vibroblade combo weapon, but at least both of those aren't new, either, only combining them. :P

Yeah, but even then it was called Star Wars Unleashed. This announcement is barely even half brand new.

Yeah when they're Batons or Tonfas and made of wood they make sense... as a lightsaber they just look tacky.

Actually, AFAIK the video was simply titled "Force Powers Pre-Vis". The official name for the game was never released.

If you don't get GameInformer, run by the nearest GameStop and thumb through the pages in store. The concept art and screen shots look amazing.

I recall the title being issued back in the Fall. :P

Shit, I swear I heard it from E3 even...

And I think I'll pass on seeing what the game is about.
