So I'm about to start in a new D&D campaign, 3rd level cleric, and I'm thinking of pickingu p an item creation feat (either Potion, scroll or wonderous), but I'm not sure.
Are they worth it?

Well if you mean from a purely min/maxing perspective I'd say no. Unless your DM runs a fairly low magic game where scrolls/potions aren't normally for sale it isn't worth paying XP for a slight reduction in price. The exception is if you're going for a scroll based prestige class or your DM allows Artificers, but since they get all the item creation feats as class features the point is moot.
That said, if you want the feat just cause it's the kind of thing your character would take, go for it.

If your DM gives more experience to characters of lower level as the chart goes by, then you can stay a level or two behind and turn all of the parties wealth into magic items. Provided you have time to do so of course. Also wondrous would be the best choice if you only due one.
Edit- Also you should due everything in you power to not die. So power should always be a consideration for characters.

Re: D&D Feat Question
No DM ever gives you the Downtime needed to make items. Don't waste the feat.xammer99 wrote:So I'm about to start in a new D&D campaign, 3rd level cleric, and I'm thinking of pickingu p an item creation feat (either Potion, scroll or wonderous), but I'm not sure.

Some DMs do, speaking from experience on both sides of the gaming table. The question is, does yours?Vehrec wrote: No DM ever gives you the Downtime needed to make items. Don't waste the feat.
The Excellent Prismatic Spray. For when you absolutely, positively must kill a motherfucker. Accept no substitutions. Contact a magician of the later Aeons for details. Some conditions may apply.
Well, I would definitely advise against 'Brew Potion', for half the price (in gold and xp) you can get the same effect for 'Scribe Scroll'.
And, I would take 'Scribe Scroll' over 'Craft Wondrous Item'. Reason being, it's quicker to scribe a scroll during downtime and it can be pretty damn useful to have emergency scrolls of those situational spells that you might have prepared that day. Examples would be Remove Blindness/Deafness, Mass Align Weapon, Restoration... the list goes on for clerical spells. Also, I don't know if you have access to Complete Mage, but they have a magic item that allows you scribe scrolls in your sleep.
Craft Wondrous Item is nice, but you might not be able to make certain item because you might not be the right caster level or have access to the right spell. Certain Magic Items, despite being maybe 1000 - 2000 gold, might require a 19th caster level. Unless you have a good list of magic items that'll benefit the party and you know you can make them near future, then you can go for that.
But, personally, I see 'Scribe Scroll' as being so much nicer.

Scribe Scroll or wait and net Craft Wand. Wands of any cure are a huge help. As for 'dur, DMs never give you downtime', first off, thank you for pretending your DM is every DM. Jackass. Second, even if you don't have downtime, fear not. There are methods around it.
If you're in Eberron, a Homonculus exists to do the work on it's own. Stuff the little guy in a Bag Of Holding. You'll pay the costs, he'll do the work.
Complete Mage, besides levelling the playing field for Sorcerers, also offers a magical Quill that will scribe scrolls for you once you utter a command word. It costs 1750 gp on the open market(875 gp, 70 XP, CL 1 to make), and goes on it's own.
