World Of Darkness
Anyone here play NWoD? If so what do you or you ST use for music? Also how many players do you have/game with? What kind of game are you playing in/running; Human, Vamp, Werewolf, other? Where does it take place? What have you delt with.
Im preping to run my 4th game using the New WoD system, Humans similar to the ones from the TV show Supernatural. Thinking about running in Central Europe or North America.
Thoughts, suggestions.
Just curious as to what others are doing in this system.

Though I am not playing in it, the denizens of SDN have a game going on here at this very moment. It might be worth reading through to get ideas.

That's really the largest problem with nWoD. Most of the system isn't that bad from what little I've seen, but the storyline is vastly inferior IMHO.AidanMcfay wrote:old wod, new wod, doesnt really matter to me. No, the previews "mehed" it for me, so I approached it cautiously and decided not to purchase. NWOD has gotten exactly zero of my hard earned dollars and that's the way it is going to stay.Kojiro wrote:I take it I'm not the only one that excitedly got a hold of it and ended with a big 'meh'?Imperial Overlord wrote:No, that's Old World of Darkness, not the Satan spawn NWOD.

The lack of a metaplot is probably my only real gripe with it, and the Atlantis thing for Mage is silly. Oh, and, er, no Technocracy. The new bad guys in the mage game are like shadows of the former Technocracy.Sharp-kun wrote:What's people's problem with nWoD? Things that suck about NWoD:
Setting:
Vampire: No coherent plotline. It's just.. You're undead. @whee. Why should I give a fuck?
Mage: From the epic battle of which is the better future, with occasional outbreaks of Nephandi to... Atlantis. I'm sorry, that's just dumb.
Werewolf: From trying to stop the end of the world to playing spirit cop. Oh yea, and they fucking took my Metis and Lupus. Fuck you, WW. And where's my Bete, bitch?
The rules aren't too atrocious, but rules don't grab me and make me want to play.

NWoD has some nice concepts, but they also ditch a lot of the stuff that made OWoD so fucking awesome. Like, as Nitram pointed out, a compelling reason to play.
I run my campaigns in the OWoD universe, while taking in some of the elements of the NWoD that actually work. In my current Werewolf campaign, for instance, I've brought in the rat-hosts and spider-hosts simply because I love the concept. And I've made the Black Spirals more in the image of the Bale Hounds, a secret, hidden cult working to corrupt from within, rather than an openly operating force.

The system I have no problem with, apart from niggles I myself have, that wind up making the other games into Gangrel and Tremere, not Werewolf and Mage.
To explain:
Both have similar to 'Humanity' paths. Both regen just like vampires(I could see toning down a Garou's regen, but a Mage regenning that easy?). Both discard all 'unique' births(No Lupus, Metis), your primary opponents are each other(Vampiric infighting), and the story opponents are.. The same thing as you, just thinking you're assholes(Sabbat! @whee.).

The system I've applied one tweak to regarding firearms - you do not get the weapons dmg as dice in your role. If you hit that dmg is applied as automatic successes.
This makes firearms slightly less likely to hit, but means when they do they hurt a lot. it also avoids the "granny with a greataxe problem", where she has no actual skill, but the weapons stats give her silly hit dice.

An interesting one. It'd cut down on my favourite WoD moments, though, which were inevitably the outrageously John Woo moments in Werewolf, where one guy is plowing through a horde of gunmen, regenerating the whole time, before finally using them as melee weapons against the giant baddie.Sharp-kun wrote:The system I've applied one tweak to regarding firearms - you do not get the weapons dmg as dice in your role. Werewolf was all about over-the-top action.

Which is why I'm picking and choosing from it and several other games for my current campaign.SirNitram wrote:The system I have no problem with, apart from niggles I myself have, that wind up making the other games into Gangrel and Tremere, not Werewolf and Mage.

Right now, it's set in the OWoD universe, I'm running my own apocalypse. The Technocracy is now striking full force, Pentex is doing its damnest to proceed to Phase 2, The Wyrm is tightening its coils, The Weaver has entered into a tenuous alliance with The Technocracy, though it plans to stab them in the back and attempt to calcify the entire organization. On top of that, thanks to the Technocracy's killing of Ravnos, the rest of the Antediluvians are beginning to wake, and Gehenna is about to occur.
And if that weren't enough, there are a pair of demigod-level characters roaming around causing trouble for the PCs. Damon, a former Glasswalker who died horribly, was put back together with a patchwork of Weaver spirits, and now considers her the daughter of The Weaver (and who is heavily based off of SHODAN in terms of attitude and personality). And Nate, the first character I ever created as a PC several games ago, who has now successfully travelled all nine circles of the Black Spiral Labyrinth, gone completely insane, gained godlike powers, and now sees himself as the physical incarnation of The Wyrm.
And if that weren't enough, Damon's manipulations have caused tears to open up in the fabric of reality, to a possible post-Apocalypse future, and things have started to come through (namely: The Rat-hosts and Spider-hosts).
As for my PCs, their eventual goal is to learn that they're destined to physically embody four universal constants, and then exercise those powers in concert, setting up sympathetic vibrations that balance out a now severely teetering earth.
Of course, they don't know this yet, and have a shitload more quests, drama, mutilations, and theatrics to go through before they finally learn.
I have to agree with what Nitram said a few threads ago: I like my campaigns to be suitably epic.

I never understood the fascination with Vampire, really. I mean, I like it, but I think WW produced better gamelines for the Old World of Darkness than Vampire, Mage and Werewolf. Namely, Demon: The Fallen. It was kind of a late comer, but it was the first WW rpg that I ever heard of, I read all the books I could get my hands on, and I loved it. The meta-plot, the background, the different Houses... ah, those were some good times.
Sadly, I didn't get into it until the NWoD line had already been released, so I only ever got to play in one Chronicle, and that one never got finished... 'tis sad, really.
I couldn't resist the urge to gimpify my character, either. The DM stated that it was going to be an epic, apocalyptic story with death and destruction and mayhem, so pretty much everything was allowed. Lore of Flame 5 + Stamina 5 + Survival 5 = "Holy shit! That car just fucking exploded!" Hehehe...

I'm going to assume that instead of gimpify, you meant pimpify. Gimpify has an air of intentionally making your character weaker for some unknown reason.SilverWingedSeraph wrote:I couldn't resist the urge to gimpify my character, either. Oh, and having the urge to munchkin a little is completely normal. Though it's most fun if you munchkin accidentally.

There must be a balance. RP is ultimately about playing a character whose a touch larger than life; no one wants to play Stan the Delivery Guy, whose not special at anything. I generally encourage folks to pick one thing their character will be good at, and make sure they compliment each other; I want epics, which require folks who are both flawed in places and amazing in others.Civil War Man wrote:I'm going to assume that instead of gimpify, you meant pimpify. Yes, sorry, I meant pimpify, not gimpify. I get the two mixed up. Well, that little bit of munchkin that I mentioned actually was accidental. I picked Stam 5 and Survival 5 for other reasons (My very-basic character concept was that before becoming possessed, my character did survival training for the military) then discovered during the first session that all but one of the powers of the Lore of Flame require a Stamina + Survival roll. That was a moment of pure joy, for me.Civil War Man wrote:I'm going to assume that instead of gimpify, you meant pimpify.
