Who does Sci Fi think they're fooling?

Post by MKSheppard »

They're trying to kill nBSG. Who the hell else would put it in the 10-11 PM time slot on a SUNDAY NIGHT?!?!?!?!?!

At first, I hoped the 10 PM slot was to be a brief interlude, due to some scheduling problems, but it appears permament. No, Sci Fi isn't willing to get rid of their crappy sci fi movie of the week, and gives the 9-10 PM slot to a shitty X Files knockoff, while dooming it's current runaway hit to 10-11 PM hell, which it's core audience doesn't have the time to wait for...

Um, Shep, not only has Sci-Fi renewed the show for a fourth season, its ratings have actually gone up since the day and timeslot change.

Mind you, it airs 9-10 PM over in Central, but is it really that big a deal to stay up 'till 11 PM on a Sunday night?

I can't remember the last time I didn't, to be honest.

I happen to have both school and work on Mondays, generally. Regardless, the point of my post was that it is easily doable, and even if you want 9+ hours of sleep then you can always record it. Almost all VCRs are programmable, and TiVos are commonplace. Really, I don't see the problem.

So do I, and my work day starts at 0600(I'm usually up at about 0400)

The whole critter flick thing turned me off of SCIFI ch. If they ever do something more towards I-War/Star Control, I may be interested then.

More people tend to actually be at home on Sunday nights versus Firday nights so I don't see how this is a disadvantage.

9-10 would be a better time, but I think they're trying to give Dresden Files a chance (a new show at 10PM would be the kiss of death)

The problem with the 9 time slot is that all the other channel's good shows are on that time as well. Like Rome, which I'm also watching. Had nBSG been on at 9, it would have faced much stiffer competition. Sci-fi made a correct choice for once.

Have a very nice day.

Yeah, it's not that bad. Considering that in MST it's on at 8pm, it's fairly easy to catch.

I actually don't mind it at 10pm Sundays. Before it was Fridays. I was always told that this was a show's death because it's target audiences (what 18-35?) would be out at the bars or movies or anywhere else but at home. Sunday is the sweetspot because people are home because they have work or school the next day, so they are not likely to be out partying (which isn't to say much for your average college student who would be out partying ANYWAY). Sweetspot none the less.

For the 3rd week in a row I've forgotten it's on Sunday night, but I've been catching it on On Demand the next day, so it's all good.

I find myself forgetting to watch with the new timeslot. Previously I'd only miss an episode if I was travelling or had plans to go out, since the new timeslot I've only remembered to watch twice. :(

Damn, when I saw this thread title I assumed it would be complaining about how the Sci-Fi channel is mostly about supernatural bullshit and horror movies rather than actual sci-fi. Hence, "who are they kidding". But I see it's about a timeslot.

First of all, I actually like Dresden Files, although I do realize that it does have flaws. Secondly, Space is simulcasting both shows, so I have to stay up to midnight in order to see them. Take that you whinny bitches. Because I haven't set up MEncoder yet to convert the 2.5Gb files that I have my tv tuner card set to record to down to something a little more reasonable, if I do record one or both of the shows, then I have to put them on my portable hard-drive if I want to watch them between my break in class, as I'm not walking 1km up hill just to watch a tv show. Since Atlantic Canada makes up such a small portion of the potential viewers to begin with, I think that the Sunday night time slot is a great way to increase viewership. Besides, what else is on on Sundays?

I'm not happy, but that's only because since I got satellite, all my programing seems to be on east coast time, so when I get off shift at 9 I only get to catch 15 minutes of it by the time I get home.

Now if they could keep the fucking encore showings on Monday consistent instead of preempting with CRAP! then I might get to watch it.

Ahem.

Sorry, when I yell at home the dog looks at me funny, so I'm bitching here.

You wouldn't happen to be able to explain why you have scorn for it would you? Or are you just a troll who's looking to stir up some shit and rape proper capitalisation in the process?

I was thinking that too, Mike. I see 'sci fi' I think of spaceships, planets, moons, stars, aliens, maybe submarines or trains, ray guns, bombs, missiles, and lotsa things going ka-fucking-boom; quite a few 'RAR Hipotheticle Senareos'; and the occasional WTFness like Cube. Not stupid shit like 'Crossing Over With John Fraudwards' or stupid 'lol 20th-century guy with a knife' drivel like Scream.

Although parodies like Scary Movie and Spaceballs have their place, as does MST3K.
