They point it out to other people - as in: "See, I (and the Bible) told you so!"
Also, it always is nice to see your own beliefs supported, because if even those anti-religious scientists support your belief/what the Bible says ...
And if they find stuff that doesn't support your belief? Well, those scientists ARE anti-religious.

:wtf: Is that a concession? Because I'm fairly sure that's what I've been saying this entire time dumbass.

I'll try to explain again. This is what you said (I know you know what you said, but I just want to put it in context):

Your premise (as I understand it, correct me if necessary) is that they know/realize that what they are saying is bullshit.
That is what I disagree with: In my opinion (and my experience with fundamentalist christians, anecdotal as it may be, supports that idea), they do not realize that they are spouting bullshit.

Here seems to be the rub. You're suggesting all fundamentalist dickwads don't know what they're spouting is bullshit. What I'm suggesting is that only the ones that try and point to scientific evidence as backing them actually do realize on some level that what they're spouting is utter tripe. Otherwise they wouldn't be constantly seeking outside approval to validate their beliefs.

You're both wrong. In most cases, they don't know it's tripe, but they do fear that it's tripe. That's why they seek reassurance from science. But they don't look too deeply into science, because they're afraid that they'll hear something which shakes their faith. So they prefer to get their science heavily filtered, preferably by reading what creationists say about it.

OK, I can pretty much agree with that (see below).

True, I did leave that part out.

I would propose that you have several groups of fundamentalists:
1) The extreme: They know that the Bible is true. Period. Science is irrelevant. (This is pretty much the kind of people I was referring to)
2) The doubters: They want to believe the Bible is true, but they see stuff that doesn't fit. So they pick and choose what they hear. (This would more like the kind of people Darth Wong was referring to)
3) The bullshiters: They know that lots of stuff in the Bible is weird and wrong. But they still want to believe, so they use whatever arguments (irrelevant if credible or not) to somehow convince themselves (and others) that the Bible is true. (This would be more in line with what General Zod was referring to)

There are of course fluid boundaries between these three groups.

It isn't even an undergroun ocean, its hydrous rock. Maybe 10% water content. Too bad.
