I think there was, but I'll have to try and watch the replay -- I could have sworn I saw -- something, and heard cylon engine noises but, damn cant be sure

Heh, the poll's straight 5s so far. :D

(Incidentally, this is the first episode of all season 3 that I would rate a 5)

Great episode. Good writing, even good drama, beautiful shots everywhere.

I also thought I saw a Heavy Raider In The Mist, but then I double-taked and thought it was Starbuck's viper. I don't think anything hit her, but that fiddling with the ejection seat... it brings up questions.

Decent episode, actually did a good look at Starbuck and Apollo's relationship(or what it should've fucking been, and not the drivel we got). The ending was an especially nice touch as well as the dialogue between Lee and Adama about Kara's ship going to the four winds.

All in all a filler episode that I enjoyed. Only thing that would ruin to for me? She comes back to life because of crazy Cylon shit. Letting a major character stay dead would be astounding.

I think that was just lightning. That is what it looked like to me at least, and I have seen lightning blast holes in objects in the physics lab, so it might be possible.
My significant other brought that up, but, that just strikes me as potentially crappy design. Is there any record of an aircraft having something similar happen to it due to a lightning strike?

Wonderful episode if you ask me, definatly a season high point. Personally i am going for Cylon resurection, although just letting starbuck die is pefectly fine as well.

Ok, just rewatched the part where Kara loses her plane. Yes, there was a heavy raider, you could see its exhaust from when it showed Lee's and Kara's Vipers. My money is now on Kara ejected, and the Raider caught her.

Fisher, you beat me to it.

Nit and I also watched that scene. We confirm exhaust ports of a Heavy Raider, just before Lee catches sight of Kara. The question now is what was the white light around her.

Good episode so far. Nice references to past pilots. I didn't know that Apollo was that close to Duck though.

And I'm glad that Lee and Dee are good together. If Starbuck's going down, I don't want her bringing down others with her. Though sucks for Anders though.

Wasn't crazy during the first bit, but I was hooked at the end. Powerful and introspective, yet mysterious.

Holy fuck a Lee/Kara scene that actually felt genuine.

Great ep, I think the show is really getting back on track.

the end really sealed the deal for me. Adama finishing the model ship, (a model WARSHIP,) and then smashing it.

wow.

just wow.

Can someone tell me what Leoben says after "no games, Kara"- which she responds to by throwing the planter at the wall? My sound cut out.

Damn. After further thought, I decided that I will miss Katee Sackhoff's character. She kind of grew on me.

Meh, I'll go against the grain and give it a three. It had some bits in it that were hopeful, going back to the idea that Galactica was a warship on the run with fighter pilots that protected the fleet. Was kind of nice to get back to the basics a bit.

The whole Starbuck thing was....I don't know really what to think really. I think the Cylon mystism arc has kind of gotten away from RDM a bit...but we'll see.

I'd prefer it if Starbuck stays dead but some how I doubt it.

Here ship had hit deep enough in the atmosphere or she was going fast enough (most likely both) that the ship was burning up on entry and the light was ionized gas.

In that case, she's dead even if she did eject, though that would require real world logic* and not sci-fi logic.

(*given how fast the ship is going, if she ejects she's still moving basically at the same velocity vector as the ship and a damn sight less aerodynamic... and the ship was burning up)

Based on what we saw, Leoben couldn't have rescued her even if he wanted to except by writer fiat since she'd necessarily need to be caught by Leoben after she ejected and therefore got wrecked by hurdling through the atmosphere for a few kilometers in a few seconds between when she ejects and when Leoben matched velocities with her and caught her. I'm not discounting that the Heavy Raider will rescue her anyway, but I'm not thinking it will because that would be tacky.

However, right now I'm putting my money on the Cylon bet. Aside from it being the only thing that really makes alot of sense (how else was she having those premonitions and she matches the Cylon psychology of projection), they were kind of tipping their hand with the Aurora of the Dawn thing. Aurora symbolizes resurrection and new chances, after all, and I don't think the BSG writing staff is going to let her go after building up "Kara Thrace and Her Special Destiny". I think she's going to wake up in a Cylon tank, but not with the conventional Cylons, since they wouldn't have her body type, but rather the Cylons in the Five.

Going to agree with Knife with the provision that I don't want to rate it until we see the outcome of the Kara situation. If she remains dead I'd give it a 5, but if she goes through something lame as a Cylon resurrection or being saved by a mysterious Leoben-piloted Cylon raider it drops to 2-3. It would really be nice if all the bullshit was just that, Kara losing her mind because she's a fucked up person and Leoben's mind games on NC didn't help. But if it ties in to the mysticism arc it better be something truly spectacular or I'm calling this as the jumping the shark moment. I'm actually hoping for some good third way because I'm not seeing them keeping Kara dead and I can't see a way to make the mysticism angle work without infusing so much of it into the Galactica universe to ruin it for me.

Technically, the episode was beautiful, both the CGI and the camera shots. Acting was top notch as well.

There already is an enormous amount of mysticism in the Galacticaverse. Too many coincidental choices brought on by the presence of "God." There's no way the oracle could know all that shit that Leoben said word-for-word, and understand its significance, and remember it over a year later to repeat to Starbuck, without the mysticism being real. Whether this bothers you or not is your choice, I suppose... mysticism (in fiction) doesn't bother me that much as long as it's consistent in-universe.

Nobody's mentioned it, but does anyone else think that the Leoben from Starbuck's visions might be the same being that appears to Baltar and Caprica Six? She realizes right before she's ready to die that he's not really Leoben.

RedImperator is going to be dead right on Kara's resurrection. There is a tight parallel between what was going on with Kara and Three's "End of Line" visions and experiments with death-rebirth. Not to mention the Aurora angle everyone's mentioned already.

I paused it frame by frame as the nose cone starts burning, the canopy is on and you can see Kara's helmet lights until the viper goes off screen. Before that she had her hand on the eject. When it explodes the very top of the viper is off screen and you see the explosion. When Lee sees it the explosion is already under way, this did give her a few seconds to eject disappear into the clouds and be picked up by the cylon heavy raider.
