Would you allow your daughter to become a prostitute?

Post by XPViking »

This is related to the prostitution thread. I'm genuinely curious about what my fellow SDnet denizens think about this:

If your daughter decided to become a prostitute, would you object? Let's say that in this case, the prostitutes are part of a union, work at a designated brothel (that is, any violent customers would be dealt with swiftly), and prostitution is a legalized industry.

If she is protected, part of a union, and has full access to medical coverage if she gets raped, then I'm all for it. I'd also encourage her to go further by becoming a porn actress. That'll rake in even more money.

I would do everything in my power to actively discourage it, but I wouldn't keep or at home or something if she decided to do it.

I would allow it presuming it was done safely and legally. I would actively encourage her to do better, to find something better to do but I would allow it.

Of course I would object. And no, before you scream "hypocrite!", the fact that I think an activity should be legal does not mean I would want my daughter (not that I have one, but if I did) going into it. It's perfectly legal to work as a janitor at a sewage treatment plant, but I wouldn't want my child doing that either.

No, because I would rather have a daughter working a decent, respectable job, and get an education. If she said she was going to become one, I would ask why she would decide to, and if she ran away to become one, then I say good riddance.

To all those who say no to their daughters becoming prostitutes:

Your opinions are, of course, opinions. It's brought to existence through your own upbringing and the context of our times. If you looked at it in a purely objective fashion, no one should really object to their daughter becoming a prostitute...INITIALLY.

Check the original prostitution thread. I made a new post in it.

Fuck no I wouldn't allow her to become a prostitute. Just because I support it being legal doesn't mean that I encourage people to do it over getting a education and a decent job.

Don't pull that smart-ass bullshit here. There's a big difference between saying that someone doesn't have the right to CRIMINALIZE something based on subjective feelings and saying he doesn't have the right to want things for his own child based on subjective feelings. Parenting is a subjective process; there is arguably no objective benefit to oneself becoming a parent in the first place, and many objective penalties.

If she really wanted to, I would support her decision. Of course, I would bitch like hell about it, and try to find a better job for her. Not to say that I have a daughter.

Oh hell yes. I'd object. Strenuously, with every tool at my disposal. I mean, sure, I can see why prostitution should be legalized. But would I want my own daughter doing it? Hell no. No more than I'd want her working at McDonalds for the rest of her life.

Besides which, it is dangerous. You can easily contract an STD, or be raped/assaulted. It's even possible, though obviously less likely, to be murdered on the job.

Would you allow your daughter to become a prostitute?
If I had a daughter, I think by the time she was in a position to become one she would be beyond my "allowing" her to anything (she would be out of the house). If I found out thats what she wanted to do, I would do everything I could to discourage her from doing this. If I couldn't sway her, I would at least try to ger her a position in a clean, controled, legal brothal in Nevada where she wouldn't get raped, kidnapped, or murdered. She would also be less likely to get STDs. Mind you, I would only do this if I exhausted EVERY reasonable (and probably some unreasonable) option I could think of to talk her out of it.

Wicked Pilot,

Good question. Let's say she is 18. That age is generally recognized as one being an adult.

If my daughter is good at it, knows the risks, is careful and genuinely wants to have sex professionally, then she would have my blessing (so would my son, BTW)

Of course, I'd expect her to be responsible and careful, but she's my daughter, so of course she would be :-)

As it is a legalised and regulated profession i couldn't stop her. I would rather she did something different, parents always have a sneaking belief that their children can do better. But at then end of the day business is business and it wouldn't be like she was whoring to feed a drug habbit like most prossies do today.

As a woman of age she has the option to choose to do what she wants with her life. I would of course try to convince her to choose a more honorable profession, like a pilot maybe. But if eventually she does choose prostitution, I would still care for her as she is still my daughter, but I would also spend the rest of my life beating myself over the head wondering where I went wrong as a parent.

I'd throw the shitfit to end all shitfits--"A prostitute?!? You think your mother and I raised you to have sex with strangers for money? You're going to college, goddammit, if I have to send you to West Fucking Point. When you have your bachelor's and you decide you still want to be a prostitute, then feel free, but I'll be God damned if you think you're not getting an education" This speech being almost word-for-word the same as the one my mother gave me when I mentioned, in passing, that I thought it would be fun to drive a big rig for a living. Just substitute "truck driver" for prostitute and "drive a truck" for "have sex with strangers for money".

If she were out of college, I'd just hang my head, wonder where I'd screwed up, and try to avoid bringing up the topic at Thanksgiving. Not much you can do to control a 22 year old.

If she was dead set on doing it, and they take every single possible percausion, i would let her. I would try and talk her out of it, but if she still wants to, i wont stop her nor hold it against her in the future.

Hell no. I don't care if it's legal or not, but I would not allow my hypothetical daughter to become a prostitute. It's a very dangerous profesion.

On a side note, I don't think many of the people who voted "yes" have kids.

Read the 1st post in the thread, it says in the event that Prostitusion was a REGULATED and UNIONISED profession with STANDARDS and a safe enviroment with plenty of bouncers incase a punter gets frisky.

It's still dangerous. You're not going to know a custumer is violent until he does something, and then it's too late.

Not only that, but it would still be possible to contract a std.

But I think this is more of the answer you're looking for:

No. I don't care if it's legal or not, or if it was the safest profession in the world. I would do everything in my power to prevent it. Any father would want better than that for his daughter. There is so much more she could be.
