XBox in the land of the rising sun

If the Japanese don't buy US computers, what do they use? Intel, IBM and Apple are all US companies. US cars sell poorly in MOST of the non-US world, I can't think of a US TV manufacturer off the top of my head (since Philips and Pioneer are European IIRC), and there are TWO US consoles and they're not very interesting to the Japanese.

There are actually quite a few RPGs lined up for the 360 in the near future. Having games that appeal to the Japanese market is definitely something that will boost sales.

No, you're just being retarded.CaptHawkeye wrote:That's one or two products in comparison to whole bunch of other American products the Japanese refuse to go near. iPods and Levi's sell like hot cakes in Japan. iPods blow away any equivilant Sony product in the Japanese market.
Cars? NOBODY buys American cars, let's be honest Okay, that's an exagguration, but in Europe, most people are not using American cars either.
Computers? Japanese use entirely American processors, motherboards, graphics cards, and software (Windows and Mac OS X).
Televisions? Heck, even most Americans use Japanese televisions.
I've talked to Japanese people about this before. In Japan, foreign things are COOL to the Japanese. Non-Japanese music can appear on their top ten selling music charts, outselling Japanese music...even though they can't understand the language, they buy it.

There are only three good RPG's I can think of: Mass Effect (I want that game soooo badly), Bioshock, and Two Worlds; and Two Worlds looks like an Oblivion rip-off. The other two looks amazing though...DPDarkPrimus wrote:There are actually quite a few RPGs lined up for the 360 in the near future. You only listed RPGs made by American or European developers. Bioshock isn't an RPG.Count Dooku wrote:There are only three good RPG's I can think of: Mass Effect (I want that game soooo badly), Bioshock, and Two Worlds; and Two Worlds looks like an Oblivion rip-off. Best care anywhere.
I didn't even know we still made TV's. I figured that we just had big companies that'd come up with new fancy TV technology, but that the real mass-production work wouldl predominantly be done by the electronics business overseas.
Their extremely Japan-centric buying is a real goofy thing, and it's true, but it's not as bad as most people make it out to be. It's less that they fear it's non Japanese origin than the Japanese are extremely strange, and few people know how to package and market products for everyone else also to them. Jeans and iPods and such are the exception, cuz just about everyone likes jeans, and they love gizmos more than we do.
I'm not suprised they don't like the X-Box though. The kinds of games they flock to are just so strange. And, seriously, what's with all the Dragon Quest love? It's just another RPG at this point. Well whatev', I just hope that the X-Box tries to adapt it's market over there, and that Nintendo starts selling us foreignors some games marketed to us. I really don't want wierd lame shit like animal crossing.

Not even that. All the fancy TV technology is basically made either by Sharp or Sony in Japan or Samsung or LG in Korea.Covenant wrote:I didn't even know we still made TV's. It should be pointed out that whilst DQ is far from unique in the market as it was when it was released with only Ultima to compete with, it's still a very good RPG. It's basically a safe bet. If you like that sort of RNG driven combat and exploratory overworld game, you'll like Dragon Quest.I'm not suprised they don't like the X-Box though. Tell you the truth, I've got the last Dragon Quest game that was released on the PS2, and to be honest, I'm struggling to see anything particularly wonderful about it.

Let's be honest, though, the American gaming public doesn't exactly have champaigne tastes either. Can anyone look me in the eye and honestly say that Halo 2 was the best FPS ever made? Because that's what the sales indicated.

Well for one I'm not American, but I've played plenty of other Japanese RPG's that I found superior, Skies of Arcadia on the Dreamcast for one, I just don't see what the big fuss is about DQ.Arthur_Tuxedo wrote:Let's be honest, though, the American gaming public doesn't exactly have champaigne tastes either. Horii never changed the gameplay, so it was always easily accessible. And by "easily accessible", I mean housewives and schoolgirls play it. I'm curious how 9 will do, since the gameplay is making such a huge shift, but the brand name and the platform will assure multiplat status.Jade Falcon wrote:I just don't see what the big fuss is about DQ.

That's what I'm saying. The best games aren't necessarily the best sellers no matter what country you're talking about. The average Japanese gamer is an idiot with cretinous tastes and so is the average American gamer, so I don't see why people are pointing to idiots with cretinous tastes in Japan and acting as though that makes them inferior to American gamers.Jade Falcon wrote:Well for one I'm not American, but I've played plenty of other Japanese RPG's that I found superior, Skies of Arcadia on the Dreamcast for one, I just don't see what the big fuss is about DQ.Arthur_Tuxedo wrote:Let's be honest, though, the American gaming public doesn't exactly have champaigne tastes either.
