Force Unleashed Preview

A first look

Some encouraging (and worrying) observations. The Euphoria technology is looking much more promising than DMM, currently.

Bonus is the cool concept art (though why Vader is knighting his secret apprentice in the presence of a Red Guard ...)

And an interview:

Why do they have to saddle these games with such stupid stories? 'Choppy choppy with the Sith dawg' writes itself, but they can never let a chance to fuck with continuity go by. :(

Because it's a multi-media "event"- like Shadows of the Empire. Because, you know, Darth Vader would feel so threatened by some idiotic green reptilian fop trying to ingratiate himself with the Emperor.

While I like this character's craft, I must note how silly it is to insert yet another new unique ship into the continuity for no good reason whatsoever.

He's Darth Vader's apprentice.

Give him fucking Darth Maul's Sith Infiltrator from TPM, or a small variant thereof.

Everyone would appreciate the sensible nod to the movies.

My biggest worry about the game at the moment is that they're letting an idiot like Julio Torres produce.

Who's that and why's he an idiot? Hope he doesn't balls up the game.

He's one of the fuckwits responsible for the NGE bollocks on Star Wars: Galaxies, and I hope he doesn't cock it up either, but looking at the state he put SWG in, he's got pretty good experience at it.

Hey, it's the obligatory wisecracking droid. Mandatory ever since HK47 proved to be the most popular character of all time.

The wood thing was impressive. Then again, I said that about halflife 2's wood breaking, and it turned out to be far less impressive than it first seemed.

I couldn't say anything more hurtful about KoTOR fans than 'they all think HW-47 is hilariously funny and awesome'.

What's the ETA on beta/demo/etc? Speculating based on screenshots is futile, and if the game is neat enough you can ignore the silly plot (like TIE Fighter).

Yes, sadly. I wish it was going to have a PC release, but it looks like it's going to be console-only. Also, that ship looks fucking sweet. The droid though... that looks utterly retarded.

I'm still baffled by the light-tonfas and the decision to rework Shak-Tis character design. What was wrong with the robes, besides not enough T&A? Just throw in some random dark side jedi if you want that. I mean, it's not as if they aren't already throwing in a bunch of as-yet-unheard-ofs.

You're right about HK-47. I find him to be completely overrated.

He was fun for a chuckle, but at some point his speech tends to get annoying. Repetition: at some point his speech tends to get annoying. Statement: yet he is considered the most popular character of all time, by some. Conclusion: those people are idiots.

And Star Wars: The Force Unleashed has been delayed to the second quarter of 2008.
