Is this real...
..and if so, what's the story behind it?

The helicopter part is real. The shark is real.Drewcifer wrote:..and if so, what's the story behind it?
However, both together is a fake; the shark was clonebrushed in.

Its a fake. There is a bigger version where you can see the Golden Gate Bridge in the background. You can sorta make it out now. Anyway, this picture was floating around where I live cause its a local scene.
I believe the helicopter is from the 129th Recon Wing CA ANG. I would not be surprised if someone from the unit made this.

They have both original photos on their site plus the combination picture.

The shark pic itself is very spectacular...not a sight you want to see ANYWHERE near your boat.

That's so fake, it's laughable. A shark jumping for bait won't have it's nose pointed towards the meal. It's nose will be pointed up, mouth open, jaws hyperextended to take a big CHOMP! And there's going to be water flying everywhere, because that shark will be moving pretty damn fast to leap out of the water like that.Drewcifer wrote:..and if so, what's the story behind it?

Are there even Great Whites in San Fransisco?

I just don't believe that you actually thought that could have been real.

That's the trouble with image editors... often the final result is very well blended together. Only logic can show the "unbelievable" bit.
F'rinstance, I once saw a painting (when I was young) showing a sailing steam packet, and wondered that the smoke from the boiler was not billowing out behind the boat (where other pictures had put it). Someone told me that smoke blows with the wind, as does a sail. Obvious to me now, but I was fooled in those days.
At work, I spend quite a lot of time making silly images of co-workers etc, and if I say so myself, some of them are corkers. I would post some of them, but I must protect the innocent...

Here's the break down of the images as they appear on National Geographic's website.

Great Whites can be found off the coast here. I dont believe they come inside the bay itself, which is where the picture was taken. There is usually 1-2 surfers who get mistaken for seals every year in Northern California and get bitten by a shark.Subnormal wrote:Are there even Great Whites in San Fransisco?

The door is on the wrong side of the helo, therefore you can tell pretty clearly that it is a fake.
