Tolerable love songs

Post by Metatwaddle »

A few days ago someone asked me to name a love song that I didn't find nauseating, and I couldn't think of any off the top of my head. I'm sure there are some, because I'm in a great relationship so my tolerance for sappiness is more than it used to be, but I can't think of any such songs. Can anyone recommend some songs whose lyrics are about how awesome the singer's object of affection is, but which don't make you want to throw up on the spot?
Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance, and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history. There is a tiny splinter group, of course, that believes you can do these things... their number is negligible and they are stupid. --Dwight D. Eisenhower

There's a lot of Motown that rides the top of the crest for pop music.

"And I Would Do Anything For Love" by Meatloaf has such great cheese factor in its favor I always enjoy it.
"A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky, dangerous animals and you know it. Fifteen hundred years ago everybody knew the Earth was the center of the universe. Five hundred years ago, everybody knew the Earth was flat, and fifteen minutes ago, you knew that humans were alone on this planet. Imagine what you'll know...tomorrow."

1. She Moved through the Fair (hey if O'Conner, Enya, and others can all cover it, then a ballad from the 1700s counts)

2. Share the Shelter-Bob Marley

3. Keep me in your heart for a while, Tenderness on the block, La Amore (something) -Warren Zevon

4. Not Fade Away- Buddy Holly

5. Into Her Arms-Nick Cave and the bad Seeds

others I just can't think of right now.

I can't figure out why I forgot Van Morrison

"She Loves You" by the Beatles. More a song about love and relationships, but it's a good one.
"Dulcinea" from Man Of La Mancha. Knightly romance at it's finest.
I'll always have a soft spot for the Blues Brothers so "Everbody Needs Sombody to Love"
And I'll second or third every Meatloaf song already on the list, as well as adding Paradise by the Dashboard Light even if the ending isn't very loving. :P

Here's a few, off the top of my head.

"I Walk The Line", by Johnny Cash
"In The Midnight Hour", Wilson Pickett
"Storybook Love (from 'The Princess Bride'), Mark Knopfler
"Sweet Child o'Mine", Guns 'n Roses
"FNT", Semisonic
"Angel of Harlem", U2 (maybe not a LOVE song, technically, but still good)
I don't like being a bastard, but they leave me no choice.

The song is great. How it was butchered by MySpace kiddies is irrelevant.

"(you're the)Inspiration" by Chicago
"Amazed" by Lonestar (they have a lot of beautiful love songs)

Nitram: You -are- beautiful. Anyone tries to tell you otherwise kill them.
