Win XP issues.

Post by Neko_Oni »

So I finally switched from 2000 to XP. However now I have the bizarre problem that almost every file I download is corrupt, install files, movie files. I can still browse the internet fine, just downloads seem to screw up. Any ideas what might cause something like this?

You don't happen to have an nForce 4 motherboard, do you?

Edit: Really, having your machine's specs would be very useful.

Problems with the hard drive controller's drivers definitely sound like a possible cause. On the hardware side of the fence, both a failing hard drive or the mentioned controller failing could display such symptoms.

But the upgrade to XP apparently went off without a hitch, and unless he's having problems installing programs from CDs/DVDs, I'd say the hard driver and controller aren't the problem. I suspect its a hardware firewall or NIC driver issue.
