Removing dead drives from Mandriva boot

Post by Stark »

So it turns out an hour after I finish transferring my data to a new drive the old ones stop working. I'm not sure if it's the drives or the RAID card, and I don't really care: my server no longer boots. It looks for the old LVG, can't find it, and wets it's pants and has a cry. I have absolutely no idea how to use the crazy Mandriva recovery console (much of my filesystem seems inaccessible, so I guess I have to mount the boot drive manually).

Is it as simple as removing the LVG and it's members from fstab?

Grr. So after trying to use the 'noauto' switch in fstab (which didn't stop it checking the group and failing) I deleted the line and it booted fine. However, if I pull the card and drives out of the system, it fails to boot even earlier (before I can switch it to 'verbose mode' to have a clue what it's doing). So what's the 'proper' procedure for removing hardware in Mandriva?

Why was the LVG in fstab but the new drive isn't, even though I've been using it and set it to automount?
