let me go off on a tangent here ~ i am amazed that libertarians talk all this nonsense about lifting regulations so the market can be free. first, realize that consumer regulation is a myth. period. people will buy products regardless of their danger or lethality.

this stupidity is in the nature of humans (and do recall that conservatives often flame liberals for ignoring human nature. well, placing regulations on the market is to safeguard the consumer, who is essentially a mindless beast in his/her nature.)

they also want to lift regulations on the businesses and AT THE SAME TIME take away the ONLY leverage the consumer has against them : lawsuits. as it stands right now, if you stand up to a business in court, you'll probably lose anyway because they will outlast you. their billions vs your tens of thousands. GG.

if tort reform is passed, corporations will have no reason to develop safe products. if they get sued for malpractice, dangerous products or other such idiocy, they won't take a dent in their wallet. and, like ford is known for doing, they will factor in how much money will lose due to lawsuits from people who've suffered from their malpractice, and modify their budget accordingly. it's fucking idiocy that they despise lawyers so much when they are the only people that can give them leverage.

By your same argument you could say that in the early 30s the Nazi or Communist systems were working just fine. My problem with the Progressive tax system is that it punishes those who pay the most money into our Budget, the rich. And that the poor are left saying "I can have 15% taxation now, or 25% taxation later. I would rather stay where I am now" no matter how many holes are in there logic.

I'd like to point out a recent hapenstance in NYC. The MTA workers complained that they were getting less money then they should of, and demanded an obscene raise percentage. Yet a bank teller who works more hours, has a more hectic job, and doesn't have union benefits was being payed more then a booth clerk. That's just downright unfair, and wrong. Unions might have once been helpful, but now they are extortionate and need to be monitored and regulated if not gotten rid of all together.
