Buffy Season 8 [SPOILERS]

Post by InnerBrat »

So, what did everyone think?

I'm just happy to see Joss writing those characters again. The voices were just as I remember, and the banter between Xander and the Buffster gave me copious amounts of joy, and I could hear the actors talking as I read. Not to mention the Nick Fury reference, and the scene with giant Dawn.

The art was pretty enough that I'm willing to forgive the fact that the faces weren't particularly distinct (for ages I thought that guy in the helicopter was Giles). And at least it avoided the porn-feel that earlier Buffy comics had.

My only problem, which is a personal fan standpoint and something I was going to have to face whichever format sequels to Buffy came out of, is the sotryline is too grand for my tastes. I like little stories, about friendship and family, Buffy's boyfriend turning evil and little apocalypses no one notices. Big stories that affect the whole world don't really cut it for me, which is why I didn't like season 7 or to a lesser extent, 4. However, given how 7 ended, 8 was alwasy going to have to deal with big world-scale events, so I guess I'll have to suck it and deal.

And I admit, Buffy as a wanted terrorist does have some appeal.

Issus one came out this week. I assuemd the Buffy fans in this corner of the internet would have been as all over it as the places I've been hiding recently.

I may give it a shot since my list of comics I buy can be counted on two hands and is less then $25 monthly(when a comic cost $2.50-3, means a lot more today then fifteen years ago).

I've been iffy about Joss especially in Buffy of the latter seasons, but Fray was excellent...so given this is a Buffy thing but in a comic format, sure what the hey...there are still a few things I loved of the series.

I kind of hope they wiat with Angel season 6 and publish it alongside the possible Buffy season 8, so the comics are concurrent again. Pushing it, I know.

Read it. Pretty good introduction, I think.

I can't help but shout "With Buffy back at Darkhorse, will we ever get a proper Buffy/Hellboy crossover?!"

I'm certainly more interested in seeing what follows Angel season 5 than the last season of Buffy. Although, As characters go I'm probably more interested in seeing what happens with Illyria than Angel. :D A bit curious about Spike too. I'm guessing that Gunn didn't make it.

I ditto the Illyria sentiment, however, I cannot help but squee at the notion of Brian K. Vaughn writing Faith.

According to an interview I read a few years ago with Amy Acker (Fred/Illyria), Season 6 of Angel would have shown that all of them, indeed, made it out, except that Gunn would have been turned into a vampire and would have been the Big Bad for that season. It'll be interesting to see if they go that route with it.

Funny, but I never really like Angel (still haven't watched all the way up the end, but I have seen some of the Illyria epsiodes, Smiletime and the finale)

I could explain why, but I want to watch it all before I have a coherent argument.
