"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
Clearly the purpose of the "militia" is to act as security force to maintain independence. This is called the US military.
Whats wrong Shep? Afraid of getting killed fighting? Oh well, guess that means you wont be defending our country so your right to bear arms in that regard is revoked. Thank you Shep, concession accepted.

Odd that tradiontal through-out history "MILITAS" keyword where made up of local citizins who armed themselves and joined the regular Army units to provided extra defense
That definition is at odds with the historica USE of Militias(The Miniute-men of Concord and Lexington being the prime example, these people never had any specific military training and where orginzed into units BY military trained fokes and called militias during the Indepdance War)
As it was handled also in Mexcio, the US and Rome(And thats just off the top of my head)
I always understould(And was taugh as such by the US Navy) that Milita means trained or untrained CIVILIANs not activly PART of the military where a Milita
Keep in mind also that at the time of the writing, if you lived out West or anywehere on the frontiner, You HAD to have a gun(I belive 70% Family ownership was one Statistic I saw back in HS)

According to Title 10 USCS 311:
"(a) The militia consists of all able-bodied males aged 17 to 45, both citizens and those who have declared their intent to become citizens, and of female citizens who are officers of the National Guard. The militia consists of two classes: the organized militia (the National Guard and the Naval militia), and all the rest (the unorganized or reserve militia).
(b) The classes of the militia are -
(1) the organized militia, which consists of the National Guard and the Naval Militia; and
(2) the unorganized militia, which consists of the members of the militia who are not members of the National Guard or the Naval Militia"

In this age of US military dominance over basically anyone that could threaten us significantly, is it necessary to allow people to own anything more then a handgun? I see no reason to allow joe shmoe MKShep to own a military weapon. If we're invaded, the US military is obviously gone and no amount of untrained idiots running around with guns will stop the invaders. If were not invaded, the second amendment removes the right to bear arms because there is no need for the citizens to 'maintain freedom'.

Even 75mm pack artillery weighed over 1300 lbs. You aren't getting an artillery piece man-portable. The M120 120mm mortar weighs over 300 lbs.Admiral Piett wrote:I am not an expert about small artillery pieces, but I suppose that something capable of firing a 105mm shells and enough light to be man portable should be feasible.
A bit more feasable, though unlikely to carry a nuclear warhead. If not a mortar then a rocket launcher.
IIRC, not enough to make them man-portable. The advancements made in a 64-point initiator may not be feasable to bring over to a mininuke.Admiral Piett wrote:That was in the 50's.A LOT of improvements have been made in this areaBeowulf wrote: The Davy Crockett warhead weighed 51 pounds, not including the aerodynamic fairings.
If we're invaded it doesn't mean the US military is gone - it may mean the US Navy has been defeated, however.kojikun wrote:In this age of US military dominance over basically anyone that could threaten us significantly, is it necessary to allow people to own anything more then a handgun? If we're invaded it means the military is out of the equation. Gone. Not necesarilly GONE gone, but gone in the sense that they mean nothing anymore. If the military, with its supply of high tech equipment, is defeated, what use will people with guns and no military training be? None. Theyd be slaughtered.

on the 1941-45 partisan war against the Germans in Russia.
The Germans had about 20+ divisions running around the rear lines
at all times, trying to stamp down the damn partisans, rather than fighting
the russians.

Invasion of CONUS means that
(1) The enemy has achieved naval superiority in that region
(2) The enemy has achieved air superiority in that region
It says nothing about if the Army, Army Reserves or Army National Guard have been destroyed or repelled in that area. It says nothing if the US Navy is winning elsewhere, if the US Air Force is recovering away from the enemy.
Invasion means that troops are being sent ashore on American soil - whether they can be defeated is another question.
