The dude in the tourney had like 10 or so engineers assisting, and he was Aeon. He had like 3 T3 bombers by the end of the 15 or so min. If you go to gamespot you can check the vid out.Covenant wrote: Back to SC, I like the idea of having 3 factories and packing up a game in 15 minutes, that sounds perfect. How many is the 'maximum number' of engineers a factory will support? TA never had a max number. Or do you mean max as in 'as many as he has'?
Also, what faction was he? Cybran seems to groove with my hit-and-fade kind of lifestyle, but they seem overplayed. Aeon might be good though--they're generally fast. If it wasn't for the Mantis... well, the Mantis is just nuts. ;D

Yeah they said they doubled it, however the match only took 13 min., so if you double the time that's only 26 min. without the mods.GuppyShark wrote:Oh, FFS
I tried watching that video and it cut out just as they were starting the match.
But I saw enough to know that for this tournament they used a mod to increase build speed and resource gathering... so it's not really that useful a benchmark.

A good hard-techer can get to T3 by 13 or so minutes, especially if he's got a teammate defending him.
In somewhat related news that I half-remembered, the HAB out to be happy that the Fatboy handily defeats Monkeylords (as long as they don't get in too close), and even turns Galactic Collosi into scrap metal (again with the range thing).

I wonder how well a Galactic Colossus could be used as base defense. It seems utterly worthless on the attack, given it's exceedingly short range and slow speed, combined with a nearly complete lack of AA... but those problems go away when used defensively, and seems like the best way to use it. Seems kinda dumb for such a huge unit to be a bit defensive critter, but a lot of Aeon's stuff seems defensive or raidery, and it's definately no raider.
You could escort it with other stuff, like mobile AA which can hide under the Aeon's excellent hovering shield generators. Honestly though I don't think the GC is all that good. The Aeon on the whole get shafted in the T4-X department. The Cybran get the Monkeylord and the UEF get the Fatboy, both of which are far superior to the GC.Covenant wrote:I wonder how well a Galactic Colossus could be used as base defense. After being utterly massacred as Aeon, I'm turned off by them due to their late-tier wonkiness. I was engaged in a big battle in T2, dueling tank divisions, and I just couldn't generate enough energy to keep my shielding on. All those T2 tanks sucking power really crippled my economy as well as my military, and utter defeat followed.
And once I broke into T3, my sieges couldn't stand against Titans, and really just got the shit beat out of them. It was pretty bad. I knew I couldn't push for T4's (since they suck) but, eh.
Anyway, Aeon is by no means a weak side, but it's a bit more defensive than I'd like, and I'm going to play as UEF for a while to see how they feel. Their unit design and coloration and weapon effects have to be the most pathetically stupid looking of any RTS I've seen in a long time, but at least the units themselves are fairly dependable and I'm not going to get hit with that late game gap like Aeon does. I'd play Cybran but my main competetior does, and I don't like mirror matches. This game is bland enough as is--last thing we need is to actually make the sides the same!
Plus, UEF has a lot of good combinations. They seem flexible. And, as you said, the Fatboy is excellent. And in a Sea map, the Atlantis is also quite good. The rest of their navy is ass, but that big super sub is good, and if I can hang onto Air Supremacy (and just make attack subs to keep the enemy at bay) then I should be able to at least attempt to contest the sea.

Atlantis pwns everything at sea. Plus, they're relatively cheap and fast to build. Plus, it's an aircraft carrier! Fatboy pwns everything at land. Plus, it's amphibious! And it's a factory! Mavor, well, don't dream, because you'll never get to build it in a normal match. It is made of win though.
Warning: UEF T3 siege bots also drain energy with their shields. But by then you should have some T3 power up, so no big deal.
Aeon defensive, you say? Aeon are the most offensive to me. To beat UEF siege bots with Aeon siege bots, you run your bots through theirs. They have slower tracking speed, so the Aeon bots should be able to get in a lot of ood hits from behind.
