Yes, the Angels are alive and they have souls, but they're not organic.

That, would be realtivly impossible. Doesn't 01 show the S2 engine before it eats the thing? Zeruel blows off the torso armor, and there's the damn red orb. Ritsuko says "Its an S2 engine" or some such, then 01 activates it, gets back up, and shreds the bastard.

You're only describing what it looks like.

Sea of Dirac is a basically a pocket of space, or a separate universe. Leliel's body was nothing more than a gateway to a Sea of Dirac.

That's why the Eva 01 had one when it fought the 16th Angel.

Ah. Thanx for the clarification. Any comment on 01's S2 engine?

I think my version of events also conisides with 01 being able to break out of Sea of Dirac after running out of power.

IIRC, Unit-01 went berserk in the Sea of Dirac.

The Eva 01 didn't get an S2 Engine until it consumed Zeruel.

What you saw were the Eva's core. They all have them becuase they're copies of Angels, who also have cores, which have to be destroyed to kil them. That's why such a big deal was made of the scene with the Eva 01: it's core was exposed, and Zeruel was attacking it.

Eva 01 went berserker in Leliel, which it can do without power.

Hang on, I think I have hte order screwed up. Was the one that was a gate to the sea od Dirac before or after the one that took the N2 mine without an AT feild and only "blinked"?

Edit: How did it activate without power? I remember some semi-explanitory dialogue when Asuka faces off against 05-13, but that mostly infered that she-herself was powering 02.

Basically, the human soul in the Eva reposseses the body from the pilot, as opposed to requiring an internal power source to stimulate its nerves.

In other words, it goes berserk.

That didn't entirely answer my question. Or make sense. Here's a simple method of explantion: Assume I am an idiot who has watched the series but once, marathon watched SE: Lain beforehand to prevent mental desecration, and am asking how 01 manages to get back up after losing all power.

Yes, all Eva pilots must be born after Second Impact (but can be born on that day), and their mothers must be dead.

An EVA needs a soul to function. Otherwise, it's just a useless hulk of flesh. The entire point of the entry plug is that it transplants a soul into the EVA, allowing it to move. Ikari Yui's soul was captured by EVA-01, and can preempt Shinji's soul, allowing the EVA to move. Because Shinji's soul is not housed within the EVA itself, power is needed to transplant it into the EVA. This is unnecessary for Yui's soul, which is in the EVA. So when EVA-01 goes berserk, it's just the EVA using Yui's soul to move instead of Shinji's.

That's my take on it. Don't flame if I'm wrong.

and asuka will probably call him a baka the whole time...

and then they have to populate the earth again, and to do they'll need to~~ ahem

Well, More Specifically...I'm trying to figure out why Shinji was Strangling/atempting to strangle Asuka (Though, to me, it appeared to be a mild fusion with Rei as well--what with the bandages and all) at the end. I got pretty much everything else, but that just caught me as odd.
