Hmm, didn't have any trouble here. But then, Freespace 2 runs great on my computer already, so any potential conflicts are probably already dealt with.
I was surprised by the voice acting, that's some quality shit, there. Sure, it skips in a few places, but they really bothered to put some emotion into it.
Too bad they didn't include more ships, it would have been nice for putting custom missions together.
Also, the installer is about half the size of the uncompressed data.
Multiplayer games are being organized in #btrl on irc.sorcery.net.

You can start a private server and play with/against the AI. Otherwise, you'll have to FRED the mission yourself.

Have you run the RunMeFirst(OpenAL).exe? (The name is kinda a giveaway what you're supposed to do )Zac Naloen wrote:This doesn't seem to be working for me, crashes immediately after clicking the .exe
And IMHO the atmosphere is excellent, not least thanks to the good voice acting. Pity it's so short. I'd probably pay for a full-fledged game of that quality.

Well I think I have..
*edit* Yes definately have. Just crashes when I click the .exe does nothing to try and run it. Hmm... i'll keep trying but it probably doesn't like something with my hardware.

I had this problem, turns out I had to delete a pair of files and reinstall OpenAL for it to work. Check the Beyond the Red Line forum's sticky on getting the game to work. Its 2 dlls in the windows/system32 folder that you have to remove.Brain_Caster wrote:Have you run the RunMeFirst(OpenAL).exe? Support thread is here

About 90% of the time this sort of error is related to one of three sound errors.
1) You didn't install OpenAL (Windows users check the folder for a RunMeFirst file. Everyone else check www.OpenAL.org ). If you didn't run this before runing the game, run it now and see if that cures the problem.
2) Your OpenAL install is corrupt (Windows users check Windows\System32 for either ct_oal.dll or nvopenal.dll. These are the OpenAL 1.0 .dlls and they are causing the screwup. Delete them and run the OpenAL installer (RunMeFirst) again. )
3) You (windows users only) selected something other than GenericSoftware from the Launcher's Audio tab. Switch it back.

Wow, shitty installer indeed. No shortcut on desktop. Creates empty folder in Start Menu. Fail.
