Serenity Blueprints

Post by TimothyC »

This was posted on another board, and I thought I would repost it here.

In short, at midnight (eastern) on saturday, a set of 750 copies of blueprints for Serenity go on sale.here is a PDF preview, and here is the press release.

Were they not almost 100 USD I'd be buying a copy.

I don't see where/how to buy them, I wish I did. I would get them for myself, or for my other Serenity enthusiasts.

Reminds me of the blueprints to the Jupiter spacecraft in the movie of Lost in Space. They cost about £30 too, not exactly cheap for a few pages.

Then there's the Firefox blueprints by Mikoyan-Gurevich which cost around £100.

Ok, so the big spinny thing we all saw in the engine room wasn't the reactor. I could barely make out the small text, but it says it's some kind of Radian Accelerator Core.

I like how they point out the fresh water and crew sleeping quarters are all right next to the reactor.

Hmmm. For £40 or so, the artwork's a bit boring. Pity about the price; those'd be handy for the RPG.
"So you want to live on a planet?"
"No. I think I'd find it a bit small and wierd."
"Aren't they dangerous? Don't they get hit by stuff?"

It's in the press release I think.

Also we know that the ship has a maximum range of 500 AU.

Actually a 500 AU range makes sense in something like a multiple-star system, which I believe it's been sometimes hinted Firefly takes place.

Also, it's certainly convenient since the ship isn't forced to constantly refuel all the time wherever it goes.

But I thought that Mal could never afford a full tank of gas? So he does have to keep making regular fuel-ups. It's kinda like Sam Vimes and spending $50 on boots each year because he can't afford the kind of boot that lasts more than a week.
Also, River has her share of places to hide. Other things can be hidden away to. And why were they making the crazy sleep that close to the reactor??

As I recall, Firefly class star freighters were designed primarily for cargo, not passengers. They probably thought if their were any passengers, they wouldn't be sticking around very long. I know it says "crews quarters" but it seems kind of absurd they'd have that much space reserved for crew. Considering the ship can be run with just 2 people.

Yeah, but what Mal does and what the ship is designed for probably aren't really the same thing. :P

That the ship has been motified a million times over, so yeah it was designed to carry cargo but now it is more a "ship".

It appears to be a specific report on "Serenity" in paticular. Since the Alliance has a lot against Mal now more than ever, it's understandable that they are researching him in detail and keeping things about him quiet to the public.

I mean after all, he has defeated one of their elite special agents, harbored a stolen top secret military weapon, draw one of their fleets into a fierce melee with a Reaver fleet, decieve numerous Alliance officials, and rob numbers of random banks and ships under Alliance control. Given the events of Serenity, it's not hard to believe that the Alliance has finally said "Enough is enough, it's time to nail this fucker."

But it is an "Independent" report. Mal is not official still part of the Independents anymore, in fact there is no centralized "Independent" movement anymore. He did not pick up Serenity until after the war. I know I am just being nit-picky, but I find it odd.

I am sure Mal is one of the most wanted men by the Alliance now.

Maybe the Independents are an underground movement now?

Thats an intresting concept as a whole. If there is still a Independant resistance movement going on. If there was, who on the ship is gave them Serenity's blue prints. I bet it was Book. LOL

I've decided to buy a copy, and when I do I'll see about some high-resolution scans...

Wow, the blueprints do look shiny, and easily worth the price. Now my wife will have no excuse to keep me from building a life-sized replica of Serenity on our property. I wonder if Universal would sue me for opening it up as a B&B.

Speaking of Universal, be careful, Wookie, about posting scans of the blueprints. Uni's lawyers went after 11th Hour over a *perceived* copyright infringement. I'd hate to give them anything else to chew on.

Thanks, but I'd never do something so stupid as to post them as open content online.

I hope they come soon! My only problem now is how to display them. Its alot of big sheets.

If memory serves, that was an underground cell....who had been compensated by Simon.
