Removal from the Senate

Post by Sonnenburg »

This will no doubt be perceived as attention whoring or an act of anger - I assure you it's neither. I'll admit I was briefly angry regarding the recent events, though it was not about being deceived; rest assured my sense of humor remains in place. What upset me is that for the past two months I've been swamped, pushing projects and such aside because of the demands of real life, even putting my Voyager stuff aside. But I still came in and read everything in the Senate forum, because as was said many times over the past half-year the responsibility that comes with it is showing up and doing the relatively small amount of work that comes with it, reading the discussion, checking the background, and trying to think of what's best for the board.

So, I was angry because my time was wasted, because I had to read this, which told me to read this and this. I felt that was a prank I really didn't need pulled on me right now, not when my kids are recovering from surgery, not when I'm trying to finish the house before my home inspection, not when I'm trying to convince the city health department that I don't have a rat infestation no matter what someone might have told them, not when I'm filling out a missing persons report because my wife's medication has stopped working and no one will do anything about it. Of course, I got over being mad pretty quick, because I realized the reason I was upset was because I didn't really have time for this anyway, it just took something like this to make me notice. And I'm in a position right now where I have a chance to make a positive contribution to the card game, much more than I can make here. So please, this isn't about what happened, except perhaps as a catalyst; it's just a wake up call that my attention needs to be elsewhere.

It was definitely an honor being nominated, voted in, and listened to, and I thank you for that. I'd like to take my leave now, without malice, knowing that there are plenty who can step up and fill my shoes here, but that there's no one else but me to do my job for the poor nerds over there.

P.S., hopefully I'll have time to finish Threshold now.
Chuck

I'm more sad to hear you leave then anything else. I enjoyed your stories and your Voyager bits were always a hoot.

But demands of real life always take precedence, and the demands that are taking your attention are both severe and rather insane in some of them. I wish you luck on all of those and hope they are resolved in your favor. Also as you said the opportunity to contibute to a game is a large one and one that no one else likely can or will take. It's unique and I look forward to seeing what indeed will come of it.

So I bid you good luck, and hopefully we will see you around these parts again, Chuck :D .

It's better that you realized this sooner than later, and that it didn't harm your personal life. I hope everything goes well for you, and hopefully your future is rosier than your present sounds.
A Government founded upon justice, and recognizing the equal rights of all men; claiming higher authority for existence, or sanction for its laws, that nature, reason, and the regularly ascertained will of the people; steadily refusing to put its sword and purse in the service of any religious creed or family is a standing offense to most of the Governments of the world, and to some narrow and bigoted people among ourselves.

I am sorry that it has come to this. You are a force for all that is good in this place and I hope to see more of you sooner rather than later. Please drop me a line if ever you want to catch up.

It has been and doubtless will always be a pleasure to read what you have to write. Best of luck to you in all your endeavors, and take with you warmest wishes and highest regards.

This Senator moves that Sonnenburg be transferred to the Inactive List of the Senate, and given the title of Senator Emeritus in recognition of his positive contributions to this board, its community, and the Star Wars vs. Star Trek debate as a whole.

I third the motion. Sonneburg deserves the title Emeritus.

Definitely Emeritus.
Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."

In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!

Rather than change his custom title, I think we should see about getting a new tag created.

Like hell. We know you better then that Chuck, have a little more faith ;)

I also back the Emeritus thing.

Unless anyone has any valid objection I also suggest that we leave the application of Emeritus status in this instance to admin discretion rather then a vote.

That actually was the intention of the initial motion. It was poorly phrased.

While it may be a bit bandwagonish I'd nonetheless like to add my hearty thanks for all the wonderful work you've done here and wish you all the best with the concerns of the real world.

Oh yes and I heartily support the Emeritus tag.

I've literally enjoyed every single post of yours I can remember reading, Sonnesburg. I support the Emeritus tag as well.

I think the support for the Emeritus tag would be unanimous. I think no vote thread is necessary for it.

So...is this real, or a set-up for AFD 2008?

See ya, Chuck.
