For those of you who don't have this gem on DVD (or VHS) and haven't seen it in a while, here's a YouTube link to the complete online vidcast of "The Curse Of Fenric" by Ian Briggs. From season 26 and the second to last serial of the classic series and showcasing perhaps the best performances of both Sylvester McCoy and Sophie Aldred in the series. It is also, in my opinion, one of the top five best Doctor Who stories ever made.
The action takes place in 1943, at a Royal Navy signals camp in North Yorkshire. On Maiden's Bay and near to another infamous landing on the sea known as Whitby.

Oil an emergency?! It's about time, Brigadier, that the leaders of this planet of yours realised that to remain dependent upon a mineral slime simply doesn't make sense.

I have to agree it was one of the better Sylvester McCoy performances and it did have things going for it. However I don't think it would be among my top five, but then my top five would most probably be chock full of Tom Baker stories.

Agreed; one of my favourites. The novelisation was, if anything, better. It didn't have the dodgy sets and special effects, for one thing, and there was a lot more backstory on Fenric's feud with The Doctor (presented as a story from 1001 Nights).
"So you want to live on a planet?"
"No. I think I'd find it a bit small and wierd."
"Aren't they dangerous? Don't they get hit by stuff?"
