i spose so, but i hate how they do that in movies, someone always has a realisation before death and then they are forgiven no matter what they have done, then again i spose it doesnt do to hold a dead person in a grudge

Hamish(wallace's child hood friend's)'s father
This is what that guy did.
In the first village rebellion he gets an arrow shot into his chest very close to his heart. His son comes over to take out the arrow. What does he do? Does he whine like a little girl? No! He hits his kid over the head and says: "BACK AWAY BOY!" breaks off the end of the arrow so that the tip of it is still sticking into him, and it throws him into an insane blood lust.
To heal this wound after the battle, he takes a swig of whiskey to dull the pain so that someone can cauterize it. The "medic" puts the red hot poker into the wound to cauterize it, throwing him into another rage. He gets up breathing heavily, marches over the "medic" who is begging him not to kill him, and then knocks him out with one punch. Then goes on to say "That'll wake you up in the morning boys!"
At the battle of stirling, he gets his left hand chopped off by an ax. At the battle of Falkirk, His put a mace and chain in the stump and is hacking away and the English better than people 20 years younger than him.

IIRC she didn't die exactly, her arm lost life or something like that, but she was OK in the end, all that happened was that The Witch King fell on her shield arm.mantakai wrote:didnt Eowyn really die at the end of that scene anyway? the price she paid for being able to kill the nazgul king was her lifeDarth Pounder wrote:Macho Scene? Sorry I didn't put this in my last post, but one of the manliest scene's I've seen is probably most of Gladiator, Maximus is a true legend.
Either that or Fast and The Furious, that whole movie was a big testosterone-fest, guys and ultra fast cars, and occasionally fight scenes and sometimes guns.

Tamahome going after Nakago with all his powers drained in Fushigi Yugi.
"Mr. Shakespere" doing his last broadcast in Argento Soma.
I'm not sure of Honda Toru facing Akito at the end of Fruits Basket is "manly" or not, but it took a LOT of guts.
Ditto with Suguru facing Ryuuga in Mahoromatic.

I already mentioned Gladiator, but here's two more candidates:
1) G'Kar, after being tortured for days, breaking his bonds to cause the death of Emperor Cartagia. Yeah, I know, it's a TV show, not a movie, but still ...
2) Captain Miller (Tom Hanks) in Saving Private Ryan, mortally wounded, pulls out his handgun to fire at an oncoming tank. Fight to the end.

I haven't read the LotR books either. Please, please no spoilers. We have a board policy on spoilers anyways.

Odd. I read them before the movie came out so when I read the book my imagination would be my own rather than Peter Jackson's vision.Zaia wrote:

We do have a board policy on spoilers, but let's be serious folks; these books were published decades before most of us were born. If you didn't personally read them, that may make it a spoiler for you, but if it's been out that long, I don't think you can say it's a spoiler for the general public.
If someone hasn't seen TESB, he shouldn't get all pissed off at us if we say that Darth Vader is Luke's father without giving a spoiler warning. I think this is a similar situation.

Honestly, look at the thread title. It doesn't say, but you can probably guess there will be spoilers of SOME sort in here.

Understandable, but my thread here specifically says that it is about movie scenes, so obvioulsy there should be no mention of things in 'Return of the King' since no one has seen it yet. Yes, I am behind the times in reading it, but have, until this point, successfuly avoiding places where I thought spoilers would be given regarding RotK. Since I specifically asked for movie scenes, nothing in the LotR story should have been mentioned. I do not feel that this is unreasonable of me.Darth Wong wrote:We do have a board policy on spoilers, but let's be serious folks; these books were published decades before most of us were born. Thanks oh so much for that vote of confidence, placing me on the level of a small child. I honestly had no desire to read the books until I saw the first movie, and I quite enjoyed the fact that I had no idea what was going to happen in 'The Two Towers.' The feeling of suspense during the movie is quite exhilerating, and I would like to keep it as such for the last installment of the story. I'm sorry if this makes me appear to be stupid in your eyes, but it is my choice. If you knew the first thing about me, you'd know that I have an extremely fertile imagination and that I don't need to rely on someone else to bring something to life in my head.Vympel wrote:Odd. As Homer and Marge are walking out of a cinema showing The Empire Strikes Back, which has a line circling the block to get in, Homer shouts, "Wow! What an ending! Who would've guessed that Darth Vader is Luke Skywalker's father?!"

Well, let's be fair. Sitting down and vegging out while watching Star Wars and sitting down and reading Lord of the Rings are two very different activities. I'm about half-way through the entire tome myself.Darth Wong wrote:We do have a board policy on spoilers, but let's be serious folks; these books were published decades before most of us were born. Also, I've held off reading each separate book until the corresponding film comes out because I enjoy the book more. I have an easier time visualizing the stuff in the books because, let's face it, thus far, the LotR movies have been spot-on in terms of casting and characters.

So you wouldn't want to hear about the fabulous song sung by the Orcs, "Where There's a Whip There's a Way"? It is a rather humorous part in Return of the King the animated version. Lousy show though. It looks very similar to the animated version of the Hobitt but not nearly as good. Actually, it seems to me that the scene from the animated RotK would actually take place in the TT since it's when Merry & Pippin are enjoying a little trek with their Orc buddies. I think this version of RotK was trying to finish off what was started and not completed in the animated LotR film.Zaia wrote: Understandable, but my thread here specifically says that it is about movie scenes, so obvioulsy there should be no mention of things in 'Return of the King' since no one has seen it yet. I read the books back in the early 80's and haven't read them all the way through since. So for the most part I've been enjoying the movies as almost new, although I do know how the trilogy turns out so it's not quite the same.
