Son Turns Atheist, Mom Tries Bribe/Threats
I was skimming another website and I found a link to this video and was quite shocked. The original poster, I take it that is the person who was holding the camera, posted it on youtube but quickly took it down but not before someone else made a copy, I suppose, at least according to here. For me, I grew up in a family that didn't place emphasis on religion and so I never had to endure any sort of coming out. I hear stories about atheists who are treated like untermenschen but again, I have never witnessed such myself, only read. But to actually see it, it disturbed me quite a bit.

Anyone who has seen the ugly side of Christianity in real-life doesn't find anything surprising. It's Osama Bin Lite.

Okay. That Mother NEEDS to be denied communion.
If I was her Priest I'd have her in anger management before she'd be allowed to take the sacraments again

The replies on youtube are interesting. Apparently people are using video responses as post, which I found an odd idea.

She is saying they need to "start" going to church every week? Trying presents to get him to "go along"? I don't think she is so angry because of his/her beliefs, but it might have to do more with the social dynamics of where she's living. Looks like she's afraid/angry, because the kid going around telling people he is an atheist, will reflect bad on her parenting abilities, and the family. It doesn't look like either the mom or the dad give much about the religion itself, given that the first thing she comes up with is christmas presents, and the dad is just quiet - might have been thinking "dude, whatever, just why didn't you keep it to yourself and play along - it's not like people give a rat's ass how you live, as long as you give presents on Christmas and say a prayer every once in a while".

Of course - because Christmas is all about Jesus, we'll punish you by denying you presents. Of all the sense that makes...
Sigh...I guess they wouldn't be fundamentalists if they weren't stupid, but why are people dense enough to think that he'll magically start believing if he's exposed to it more? Teenagers are rebellious by nature - rather than simply being an atheist, by being forced to mass he's likely instead to hate Christianity altogether.

I suspect this type of stupid argument is more widespread. A few days ago I read a letter to the editor by a retard who suggested that since Easter is just for Christians only Christians working should be paid at public holiday rates.Magus wrote:Of course - because Christmas is all about Jesus, we'll punish you by denying you presents. Never mind that easter was a pagan celebration the Christians stole and the fact that holiday no longer means Holy Day and Easter can be celebrated as a secular holiday by letting non-Christians also have they day off, or be paid public holiday rates.

Same here, my parents are both not religious at all. My mother as a child was forced to do church parades and what not in her native country and she never liked it so she didn't put it on me and my father is a atheist communist. Actually if anything, when I was younger I believed in after life, maybe god (I don't remember if I believed in it when I was real young but I know when I was older that I didn't at least not in the abrahamic sense and stuff (picked it up from mass media) so I face ridicule from my father.

Did you miss the part where she gets therapy on top of denied communion? The point would be to get her to stop being such an ass toward her son. That's why Invictus Chicken is suggesting more than just punishment for un-Christian (from certain POV, anyway) behaviour.TithonusSyndrome wrote:Yeah, that'll show her. Crusades, Inquisition, Hitler... definitely unchristian...
