Actually, I went many steps further, there are some editors online and I causally drove down the prices of the Executors and produced swarms of them.Stark wrote:Does anyone who still plays Rebellion remember the cheesy shit you could do? Which Star Wars mod/game do you like the most?

I wonder what logic they used for this, I can only imagine. As for EaW, the Executor wasn't meant to do much actually. In fact, it's quite vulnerable to swarms of fighters.
"Lol they couldn't shoot down a single A-Wing heading for the bridge! Therefore, an SSD can't do shit against fighters."
Yeah, because you know, their wasn't a HUGE BATTLE going on at the same time.

The entire EAW is a fighter wank fest in my opinion. It should keep those guys who love the X-wing series happy.CaptHawkeye wrote:I wonder what logic they used for this, I can only imagine. As for EaW, the Executor wasn't meant to do much actually. I'm still quite partial to Knights of the Old Republic. Its story and characters were better than any other game of the series, and the game was very well done in terms of design and gameplay. It may not have been as long as some other RPGs, or as pretty, but it still had everything where it mattered, and then some.

The second game was pretty messed up. But yeah, KOTOR remains my favourite.Noble Ire wrote:I'm still quite partial to Knights of the Old Republic. I'd add the Dark Forces/Jedi Knight series to my list of favourites too.

Played Galaxies 14 day trial a few years ago. It was a blast, loads of exploration and interaction. Jedi was only an unlockable class to limited people and players could put bounties on player Jedi simply for them being Jedi. Their weren't many either. The self sufficient player sustained economy was amazing. The devs would even come along and induce random depressions or booms from time to time. Biggest complaint was how slow leveling was.Cpl Kendall wrote:I'm with Noble Ire, KOTOR all the way. I want to try Galaxies but I hear it's pretty broken and I refuse to pay monthly fees to play a MMO game anyways.
Played another 14 day trial recently, its fucked up. The developers don't know whether or not they are trying to make an FPS or an RPG. ANYONE can be a fucking Jedi. The ship combat is technically unsound, timeouts and lost connections are common, not to mention lag. From what i've heard, the devs are trying to fix it. Also, the player community is making an original build of the game known as SWG Emulator, which encompases the original game combat system build.

I don't know what it is, but I find it hard to get tired of Star Wars Rebellion or as our good British friends know it, Star Wars Supremacy. Despite all the windows management, I find it really fun. Now, if Lucas Arts made a sim city in Star Wars...
My dreams for the Rebellion/Supremacy successor (EaW) was ruthlessly crushed. I won't even mention the Ages of Empire mod beyond this sentence.
Other good games were the Rouge Squadron games on N64 and game cube. I'm not a big RPG player so I haven't tried KotOR yet.

Hey all, I bought EaW, but haven't installed it yet. Can I get a good, clear shot of a Star Destroyer firing a light turbolaser and record it with Fraps?
Can I disable all the HUDs and things for such a shot?
EDIT (to stayon topic) I love Jedi Outcast. I'd make more lightsaber combat videos in Jedi Academy, if I could find a way to successfully disable that stupid "green shield" Force users use. And dismemberment in Outcast is far better than in Academy.
My most memorable gaming moments ever, besides DOOM, was on TIE-FIGHTER.

Probably not the ships are very bastardized, IIRC the ISD has about 6 guns on EaW.Lord Poe wrote:Hey all, I bought EaW, but haven't installed it yet. Can I get a good, clear shot of a Star Destroyer firing a light turbolaser and record it with Fraps?

Which Rhen Var, the Ruins or the Harbour? Also, I love Battlefront and Battlefront II, my only problem is the nerfed the vehicles and cut down on the secondary maps, they even got rid of my favorite troop only map, the Bespin platforms, oh how I loved the clash of forces in the middle of that map, it would've been perfect for racking up Award Rifles, Flechette Shotguns, and Beam Rifles.Karmic Knight wrote:Battlefront for the PC, I still crush the rebels on Rhen Var.

The Harbor. The Ruins are too confined for me. And the AT-AT is on the harbor not the RuinsGeneral Schatten wrote:Which Rhen Var, the Ruins or the Harbour? Really both but I like the Harbor.

You could, if you're patient. It has a "Cinematic camera" mode which does away with the HUDs and moves the camera about. The only problem is it's completely random (though it tends to focus on whatever action seems to be going on at the time). I guess you could try and trick it by sending in ISDs to fight and nothing else.Lord Poe wrote:Hey all, I bought EaW, but haven't installed it yet. It's also not really a jerky cam per se but it is kinda fluid and it moves pretty much all the time. I like it, personally, but I don't know how useful it is in trying to get specific scenes.
Yeah. If they slowed down galactic travel time (a lot)* it would be quite a bit closer. But it's fairly good at what it does IMO.Fire Fly wrote:I don't know what it is, but I find it hard to get tired of Star Wars Rebellion or as our good British friends know it, Star Wars Supremacy. On topic, I also love Jedi Knight. One of the most fun FPS games I have ever played. Sure you can go hack away with lightsabers and use the Force in other games now, but it was the first and thus has a special place in my heart.
As does X-Wing/TIE Fighter. Mechanics aside, it was a ton of fun to suit up in a starfighter and go kick some ass. I loved the cutscenes as well. X-Wing gets points for its custom MIDI music that fit the scene too (TIE Fighter had it originally, right? I only got the Win95 version with CD music... )
*On the one hand, I'm sure it's nice to have cross-galaxy trips in less than a week, but it really takes out a lot of the more strategic feel Rebellion had. EaW is almost like StarCraft, just slightly slowed down and with different interfaces when you do fight.

Vader and the one or two potential Trainees I would come across would always eventually be able to take down Rebel Planets and Characters at whim. Said characters would also end up commanding fleets in big engagements as well and once the Jedi Training levels got up high enough to really effect leadership it would get even more lopsided. Especially with the fighters.Stark wrote:Does anyone who still plays Rebellion remember the cheesy shit you could do? I'd end up pushing the Rebels out of the core, then flooding every planet with Stormtroopers while sending out Death Stars as fast as I could to wipe out the Outer Rim.

In the latest version of warlords the Executor kicks royal arse, I had a single Executor go up against a constantly re-spawning rebel fleet of moncals and fighter swarms and then went to dinner, when I came back there was the Executor with no noticeable hull damage but blocked in by massive debris fields, the only thing that can even damage it is the Eclipse and maybe the massive Golan 3 Battle Station. The latest version also deals with most of the slow down due to mass weapon firing as most ships have considerably fewer weapons. The fact that all ships now dump debris on death above frigate size however doesn't help. Although the AI is now officially crap as it can't even operate without the instant build game rules.
I also can't believe they cut the Bespin maps for Battlefront 2, the corridor battles between the Bespin spires were among my favourite bits, and the new space conflicts were pretty uninspiring, a Bridge commander style gameplay would have been much better for that sort of thing.
The main problem with EaW was the fact that ships were stuck on their axis, if you ordered a few star destroyers to move towards an enemy station the first ship would move forwards while the others would dash off to the sides of the map, usually through the asteroid fields and nebulas that infest EaW maps. The default game also has a massive rebel bias, Star destroyers need at least two to one numerical superiority to go toe to toe with Moncal Cruisers.
And the cinematic mode! If I wanted to stare at asteroids all the time I would have bought a picture of an asteroid for gods sake.

What? I can easily manage to take a Mon Cal (Hell, Home One is cake) with a single Star Destroyer, especially since it doesn't automatically come with Fighter/Bomber support and if they take out one Wing, I just spawn another.Darth Tanner wrote:The default game also has a massive rebel bias, Star destroyers need at least two to one numerical superiority to go toe to toe with Moncal Cruisers.

Picked up Jedi Academy from my friend. It's interesting, but I can't get it to run properly. For some reason, the game despises my wireless laser mouse. Every time I try to move the mouse, the frame rate turns into a slide show. Yet when looking around with keybaord controls, I encounter no slowdowns at all.
A few months ago. I guess people bitched enough finally. When I was doing the trial, a lot of people in the training area were basically going "This game sucks".How recently, 'cause right before I cancelled mine there was a rumour that they were going to make Jedi unlockable again, though easier.

Perhaps the EaW fighter wank is an inadvertent product of the love of fighters spawned through the X-books and the X-Wing games, TIE Fighter included?
Q: how good is normal EaW/FoC? Or should I mod?
As for my answer to the OP, because of some problem with my X-Wing: Collector's CD-ROM (early on after I got a PC), tech support actually let me get in compensation a copy of TIE Fighter: Collecter's CD-ROM. Still a personal fave, alongside XWA. (This version, while not the original, was one of the DOS-capable ones/had the MIDI.) To this day I still hum the theme... has it ever been named?
I'd also add in Battlefront II as a personal fave, especially for Kamino (Conquest Mode). No need to risk the Beam Rifle (through sniper headshots), Engineers & Soldiers FTW!

It's pretty good. It's just normal EaW with another faction. There is a few minor faction changes. I don't know any EaW/FoC mods so I don't know if the mods are better.Edward Yee wrote:Q: how good is normal EaW/FoC? Or should I mod?
So if you liked EaW and wanted more missions normal EaW/FoC is fine.
