A ban? I don't think that is necessary. Shep has differing views from the majority of the board which he stands by, going a lil overboard some of the times but not enough to merit a banning. If we were to ban Sheppard for his differing views, we would be no more better than wcotc, except for the fact that we aren't races donkey rapers but that's besides the point.

I disagree with Shep on, well, almost everything apart from sci-fi. On 95% of socio-political issues, we are diametrically opposed. On some issues, I find his opinions downright offensive.

But that doesn't mean I want to ban him. He isn't threatening anyone (although I'm told he did so in the past, hence the ASVS FS which he even admits now to have been fully justified), he isn't going apeshit with random flames or spamming the boards with mindless rants, etc.

He's been getting very off the wall lately, I suggest maybe a temp ban of a week, hopefully it'll cool him down.
He has not acted any different than those on the other side of the argument have. So if he needs some sort of ban, then others do as well. Keeping this in mind, I voted for NOTHING.

But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

Shep has just admited to acts on ASVS in this thread. However, what does he think about all of this?

Besides, Half the fun of arguing with the bastard is knowing you can flame the shit out of him.

I say do nothing. I dont agree with a lot of his views, but he does dig up some interesting articles from time to time and we share the disgust for pork barrel projects. If you dont like his posts you can always just not read them.

To be dead honest I'm more annoyed with the people who automatically dismiss everything he says because he has a reputation as a right wing bigot.
Yep, it's a logical fallacy to do that, pure and simple. Although when me and Shep agree it makes me rethink my own position.

Why Bother, When I disagree with Him, I tell him, when I really don't want to bother with a thread I ignore it.

Yes, he's politically incorrect, that does not exactly make him wrong all of the time either.

I have told him repeatably to chill out on his attacks against Anime and Fantasy.

Um, Bear, you really can't use "Him" to refer to Shep, as that would mean he was a divinity. :P

Oi, what a thought!

Do nothing, of course. I thought the whole point of this board was to discuss things. I don't want to discuss things only with people who agree with me; what fun would that be? Durr. :D

I voted nothing, though, as someone who's been posting since July and has yet to hit Jedi Knight, I recognize my opinion on this matter counts for very little. It seems to me that Shep himself gets flamed by a lot of "me-toos" who recognize he's an easy target with unfashionable beliefs who always draws a lot of fire (there was an example of this exact behavior by jaeger115 posted earlier in this thread), so it's a good way to pad your post count and throw flames around without worrying too much about getting singled out and pounded in return. Shep hasn't done anything remotely bannable, and on a personal note, I usually like reading his posts, irregardless of how much I agree with him.

I doubt Shep and I would even agree on the color of the sky, but ban him? What the hell for?

(Yes, I read the Israel $12B thread)

The day we start banning members for their political opinions is the day I hand in my membership card.

Yes, his political views are somewhat radical, and sometimes he uses debating fallacies, but in my opinion, he hasn't done anything close to ban-worthy. Besides we wouldn't be the same with a nut like him.

It's quite clear that nobody thinks Shep has done anything worthy of punishment, and I agree: you have to do a lot more than hold an unpopular opinion to get banned. This thread has served its purpose, so I'm shutting it down.
