I've noticed that IE is faster than my Opera. Strange as well.

Bill Gates is the bringer of evil and chaos. The use of a modified TCP protocol that fucks up cross-platform communications reliability is exactly the sort of thing we've come to expect from these assholes, and your president just gave them a blank cheque to do whatever they want, in the glorious cause of Corporate Profit.

Fuck Microsoft.

I ask again, how much would it set us back to "buy" a Russian bomber wing and level the afflicted areas...

TCP Protocol Translated into Real Life.
Me=Browser.
You=Server.
Rude Asswipe=Idiot Exploiter

How TCP is supposed to work:

Code: Select all

Making a Connection

Me: Hey(SYN)
You: Hey Wazzup?(SYN/ACK)
Me: Wazzup(ACK)
Me: Wanna go Bowling/Have Sex/Play Quake/Etc Etc Etc?(REQUEST)

Breaking Connection

You: Hey I gotta go.(FIN)
Me: Okay(ACK)
Me: Lata and Happy Fragging!(FIN)
You: Thanks. Bye!(ACK)

How IE does it (and sometimes gets punched in the nose)

Make Connection

Rude Asswipe: Gimme a Dollar!(REQUEST)
You: (can ignore it or refuse. let's say refuse this time) Fuck Off!(RST)
Rude Asswipe: Oh, you're a Nice Guy. Okay, Hi.(SYN)
You: That's Better. Hi.(SYN/ACK)
Rude Asswipe: Wazzup?(ACK)
Rude Asswipe: Can I borrow a dollar?(REQUEST)

Break Connection

You: Okay, you can go byebye now. Please leave.(FIN)
Rude Asswipe: (doesn't leave) Whatever.(ACK)
And there you have it.

$8.3 million will buy you an Su-25 Close Air Support craft, fly-away.

This will give you ample firepower to destroy Microsoft HQ- it's standard warload is more than enough.

Slashdot... eh...

I'll wait until it's brought up on arstechnica's forums where the people with the apparent "know-how" debates over things like these for pages on end before I form any opinion.

Can they freakin' do that? The TCP/IP system is a communications standard. All systems no matter what are supposed to use those protocols, so everyone plays by the same rules regardless of what they run. Having IE play by different rules is just stupid.

Thats what we're gonna try and find out, so I went here:

No offence to this board but we're sci-fi geeks, this is an issue for the computer geeks :D

It's also an open standard, meaning that they can toy with it however they wish.

Hm ... I'd like to see what the original author of the article has to say about the failure of independent tests.

Well, from the Arstechnica discussion it seems that even readers of slashdot have done tcp dumps:

http://slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=498 ... id=5022561

edit:
I see I'm late

As soon as I get windump working I'll be trying it too.
I seem to have the wrong version of winpcap.

Oddly enough most US Government Departments and Branchs have moving away from Windows to Unix and/or Linux. Licensing fees, secruity(sp) issues, and general Windows f--kups are the primary reasons for the move.
