[Dr. Who] Xmas Special Casting News - SPOILERS

Post by Old Plympto »

From Sydney Morning Herald

The Herald reports that the bad guys for 2007's Christmas Special will be at the very least one Cyberman.

Actually, one Cyberwoman.

Played by Kylie Minogue.

Now I just can't get that out of my mind.

Comments? Good? Bad? I haven't seen her act since *shudder*Street Fighter. Can she pull off being a Cyberman especially since she's got the baggage of being a teen pop star, then a dance diva?
Kylie Minogue is reportedly set to return to the small screen as a cyberwoman out to snare Dr Who on the British television show's Christmas special.

The News of the World said filming would start in July on the Dr Who special which could revive the Australian pop singer's TV career.

"Kylie jumped at the chance to be in the show and is really looking forward to acting again," the newspaper quoted an unnamed BBC insider as saying.

Minogue made her name as Charlene in Neighbours before leaving the Australian soap in 1987 to concentrate on her pop career in the UK.

In recent years, Minogue made a brief return to her television roots when she guest-starred in the popular Australian comedy series, Kath and Kim.

Far from the suburban adventures of Kath and Kim, Dr Who is a science fiction series depicting the adventures of the Doctor, who travels through time in a phone box known as the Tardis and fights foes, the most famous of which are the daleks and the cybermen.

In 2005, the BBC resurrected the series, which originally ran from 1963 to 1989.

Former teen pop star Billie Piper featured as Dr Who's companion, Rose Tyler, in the revived series but has since left the popular show.

I have no problem with Minogue on the show.

I'm more concerned about how she'll play a Cyberman. I'm hoping they don't get some sort fo Cyberqueen so the Doctor can actually have an opponent that isn't a faceless drone.

In the 80s Jon Pertwee was in Australia and he performed as the Doctor in a live stage show. Guess who played his companions. Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan. So I guess at this stage I don't have a problem with it.

Cyberwoman? Considering the Torchwood episode by that name and how very, very bad it was, that doesn't fill me with confidence.

In fairness, Torchwood was very, very bad, full stop.

We have already had loads of cyberwomen in Dr Who. For a fully converted Cyber 'Person', the voice is the only difference. If they are hiring Minogue, they will be obliged to make her look sexy. Which will, whilst in general being a good thing, suck from the point of view of having a menacing Cyber-man/person/woman.

One who springs immediately to mind is the menacing Thatchos.

Close, but needs a step further. 8)

I hope it doesn't resemble the Torchwood one. If they have to have her, and her features visible, I'd like a terminator-esque setup from Mondas.

Most of the suck featured in "Cyberwoman" stemmed from the idiotically dickish actions of Ianto Jones and the universal dumbness of the other Torchwood characters. Kylie Minogue is still hot and I will look forward to her guest starring role...

It was a parody from the Lenny Henry show where Henry took over Colin Baker's role as the doctor and was propositioned by Peri, in which case he retorted, "Peri, this is a children's show". Along the way they meet a Cybernised Margaret Thatcher with full Thatcher hairstyle on top of a Cyberman body.

So am I right?

Ten out of ten. 8)

YOU WILL BE PRIVATISED!

Don't you mean "eliminated"?

IT'S THE SAME THING.
