Completely Useless Things You Wish You Had

Post by Lagmonster »

Like the title says; everyone has some thing that they wish they could have that, really, serves no purpose other than to make them happy they have it. Let's hear them!

The whole thread, for me, is an excuse to post these (hope the links work):

Pah, I already have the ultimate useless item (Cuddles, why are you pointing between my legs?). I have the extractor fan, with power-assisted vents. On your normal extractor fan, pulling the cord opens the vents and switches on the fan, but not mine, oh no. Pulling the cord leads to the slow build-up of the fan, then, as it reaches a high pitched crescendo the vents slowly - oh so slowly - and majestically start to open. When you pull the cord to switch it off, the fan slows to a standstill and 20 seconds later the vents slowly - oh so slowly - and majestically start to close. As useless toys go, this one is hard to beat (Cuddles will you stop pointing between my legs.)

You kidding. I bet most of my "disposable income" is blown on completely useless things. I have an 8 lbs replica of Thor's Hammer from the Marvel Comic. I also have a life sized replica of Captain America's sheild and I have cheap copy of The One Ring on a chain from LOTR. :D

Of course, then we could go into all of the action figures and other types of dust collectors I have around my house, displayed and stored. :D

The hover scooter looks like great fun. The price though. Yikes.

I get several mostly sword catalogs (where I got the stuff mentioned above) but have managed to talk myself out of buying any so far.

The hovercraft is also cool. It reminds me of another thing I've ocassionally gotten catalogs for. It's about the same size but it's a six wheeled amphibious vehicle.

My sources of joy in the above cases was 'The Hammacher Collection', which is the worlds answer to guys with a lot of money. They used to sell electric socks, and I have two pair. The other was 'Swords Online' which not only sell exacting replicas of most every movie sword ever (including Blade, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Highlander, and Dracula), but also really cool sets of armor and other fantasy and fiction trinkets, like the above-linked sword from Final Fantasy 7.

Somewhere in this house I have the Captain Britain Sceptre (from his first incarnation) my uncle made for me when I was younger

I don't have as many as I used to have, but I do have a Dark Rider, Shenlong Gundam, Leo Gundum, Sandrock Gundam, Cave Troll and (when he arrives) an electric sauron around the Computer monitor.

That was the best version of Captain Britain anyway. The later one was okay but the first one was cooler.

I keep trying not to buy any more but they keep improving the scultping and targeting "collectors" ie adults who don't plan on playing with them. Probably the one that makes the most sense is my Frazetta "Death Dealer" figure since it really is just a plastic statue. I have a lot of Godzilla stuff around the house as well as figures from movies and comics I like. The most recent is a poseable figure from the upcoming Hulk movie.

But the later version brought us the FURY! and opal Luna Saturnyne and a proper Kitty Pryde. PLus it's who my TGOD charater was based on. :P

Mind you, the old ne did give us the Hurricane, and the premise for the Black Knight (Avenger fans now know who to blame :D ).

I like my Articulation. But, oh the detail, on some off them. I couldn't stand transformer RID but the toy were sublime (especially God Fire Convoy). And the LOTR figures are among the best mix of articulation and sculpture yet.

Speaking of sculpture, I have the Argonath bookends and I compareed them to the Production drawings for the ones in the film, they are an exact match. Excellent!

I have an Alex, and finally got a Sandrock a few days ago (in Geneva of all places) but I'm afraid I don't know what a Zeong is.

I once saw a really cool pair of binoculars at West Marine products a few years back. They were a thousand dollars, so that they qualify as something I would buy if I had extra money. Although binoculars not really useless.

I looked on swords-online.com for my all time favorite sword, the falchion(slender design version, made for piercing chainmail).

Didn't find one, but I did find, and fall in love with, this.

This is the best pic of a falchion that I could find, but I like a straighter back that curves into a point.

I have the stuff that dreams are made of.

Yup, film noir fans I own an actual replica of the Movie prop from the Maltese Falcon.

Other props that I own: a TOS Phasor I, a Dr. Who Scarf (Ok, that's impracticle but not useless).
