YouTube Fanfilm About the Time War...
Here's a fairly slick fanfilm about the cataclysmic (yet still enigmatic) Time War, when the Time Lords and Daleks clashed for the last time. It's really just cleverly edited together footage from Doctor Who whether it's from the "old skool" Tom Baker era, McGann's ill fated TV-movie and Eccleston's recent season (with a bit of Starship Troopers and maybe some SG-1 thrown in for good measure). It's got a good Tom Baker sound alike...

Babel's not making an actual fan film to my knowledge. Just a cool trailer with Tom Baker voiceovers. When I first watched that trailer, I immediately went out and watched State of Decay. "But slain they all were, every single one, by the Lords of Time."
There's nothing in it from Starship Troopers or SG1 either. The scene of the TARDIS being pulled into a Time Lord space station is from the Trial of a Time Lord season. And very good it is too, given the constraints.

The title sequence where it comes up with 'The Time War' has the Starship Troopers starships getting shot to ribbons.
And that is a very good video. 'Impossible to kill', indeed.

The original text (the Record of Rassilon) was about the Great Vampires, which were somehow literally immune to damage save by sharp impactors.

All his youtube videos are excellent. I like the McGann tribute myself.

The Daleks are only impossible to kill to lamers with G36s. Blame those guys they stole all their awesome tech off.
Anything with Time Control Room action gets my support, but anything with McGann staring wistfully (does he ever do anything else lol) sucks. Staring wistfully while you drop the smart bomb = fail.

Definatly one of the better fanmade videos that i have seen on youtube. Thanks for posting.

I do hope the Beeb commission a movie on the Time War, rather than keep alluding to it in the series. It'd be great to see something that only has the Doctor as an observer until the final act, where you see an almost documentary like war movie through the ages where each side wins and loses battles up to the inevitable demise of one race.

Depends on what happens with the license for Daleks - IIRC the BBC doesn't control it so they have to get permission, and there've been some problems with that...

I recognised it as well. Despite how powerful individual daleks have become, I doubt they hold a candle to how physically powerful the Great Vampires were supposed to be.NecronLord wrote:The original text (the Record of Rassilon) was about the Great Vampires, which were somehow literally immune to damage save by sharp impactors.

Lets play a game and see who recognises which part comes from what.
Obviously the Paul McGann scenes were from the eigth doctor movie.
The Dalek fleets were from the Parting of ways.
Various scenes and words from Dalek.
As mentioned, Tom Baker's narration was from the State of Decay.
The dalek order to return to Gallifrey and assasinate the president was from Resurrection of the Daleks
The Time Lord president being shot was from the Deadly Assassin.
There was a line from the Three Doctors by the chancellor about being consumed and being up against a force equal and opposite to our own.

The "### Dead" bit at the end came from Starship troopers, I recognize it.

Except such a thing would almost certainly depict the Time War as some fannish, boring and irrelevant clash of the fleets and not the more likely wikiwar with a Dalek bum-rush at the end. It *would* be nice to see the different events (and the edits already performed in the older show) recast as the opening shots of the Time War (ie, Rememberance, Genesis, etc). While the Daleks are evil, they were getting their history edited fairly consistently, and once they got the supertech of those guys, it was on for serious and the Time Lords were probably on the back foot using the Time Control Room to save the universe from paradox city.Admiral Valdemar wrote:I do hope the Beeb commission a movie on the Time War, rather than keep alluding to it in the series. And not some DW:EU 'time torpedoes' nonsense. Let's not reduce the Time War to the Battle of Endor. And the Master better be there giving his life to help the Doctor win.
And no staring wistfully.

Oh shit! Why does it keep on happening to me with the busted "URL" links on SD.NET! The lack of edit function doesn't help either...
The two Starship Troopers spliced clips - the Terran Federation fleet getting shot down over the "Bug" planet and the multi-million deathcount from the Burno-Aires asteroid collision.NecronLord wrote: There's nothing in it from Starship Troopers or SG1 either. And I mistakenly thought the Time Lord space station was supposedly Anubis’s sinister flagship, but either way that's very good special model effects for a low budget BBC series from the 1980s (although "Remembrance of the Daleks" had surprisingly good production values from the same Doctor Who time period as well).

Here are some clips from Doctor Who overdubbed in Japanse:
The basement scene from "Dalek"
The Cyberman mansion invasion from "Rise of the Cybermen"
It's surprisingly good voice acting and not very jarring, with the Cybermen being notable standouts. I liked the Japanese voice for the Dalek too, with the Dalek's fury, hatred and fanaticism pinned down by the Japanese voice actor fairly well (but it was sadly and inexplicably missing that iconic metallic twang that makes the orginal British Dalek voice so cool).
