Of course if you really want to fuck with someone, ask them to name the EC characters the Watchmen are based on.

Note I mentioned EC comics in my 1970's list
No fair, you've read every comic ever printed, ever!

Thuogh I'll be impressed if you can name who rorschach is based on as it's the one that trips up most people.

Who really is just an oddball in DCU(god his history is screwy as hell)

And yes, Ilike DD but the fact everyone has to do it a certain way...eh...like the cartoons more.

The Fantastic Four has been my favorite since I was a kid. I guess I always liked the Thing and then they had all that sci-fi stuff.

I guess that's one of the reasons I like the Planetary so much since that book takes a version of the FF and makes them the villans.

Certainly I like and have liked a lot of other books and characters, sometimes a lot more than the FF or the Thing but that book is the one I consistantly got for so long. I have a continuous run of the FF from when I got a subscription in 1977 to 1996ish (when they closed out the original series
before Jim Lee did that 13issue mini-series). I have more issues from before that time and since but that was the begining and end of my major comic collecting phase. :) I haven't checked lately but I probably come very close to having 20years strait off FF issues.

Good one...one that I actually know and put down somewhere.

Got into some interesting debates on this stuff...but with enough tracking down got them...I think.(ozy being the only one I have some trouble pegging)
Well he's based on a Character that was rereleased in a mini-series in the early 90's, based in Tibet.

I used to read the early FF, but the 90's put me off them. But maybe you can settle something, I'm positive there was a female Thing, and at the time Ben was human. I'm also sure that at some point Ben wore a helmet. Most of my comic reading friends tell me there was no Female thing and they're split on the Helmet thing.

The book has been pretty crappy at times but I'd built up so much momentum that I didn't stop getting it even during those times. John Byrne's run on the FF was very good.

Anyway to your questions. There was a female thing who was Sharon Ventura who had been part of the unlimited class wrestling federation in the Thing's book. She ended up joining the FF in human form during a period where the thing was in charge. IIRC the teams was The Thing, Ms. Marvel (Sharon, no relation to the Avenger by that name), The Human Torch and his sort of wife Lyja the Laser Fist (an augmented Skrull). Anyway, The Thing and Ms. Marvel got shot into space for some reason and exposed to more cosmic rays. The Thing mutated further into a bigger stronger spiky version of himself. Ms. Marvel mutated into a creature like the earlist version of the Thing but stronger because of her previous superhuman strength augmentation.

Ms. Marvel later mutated to where she looked like a female version of the classic Thing at about the same strength level. It was during this period when you might have caught her appearance in The Incredible Hulk. In that book the Hulk had been poisoned and was trying to track down who had done it. In the 4 issue story the Hulk fights the Abomination, The Thing (actually Ms. Marvel) the Leader and Madman. In the issue with the FF the Grey Hulk gets into a fight with Ms. Marvel and kicks her ass. Also, Ben Grim is human at the time (I don't remember why though) and tries to help MM. He later has a beer with the Hulk and the Hulk tells him that during all the times he beat him up as the Thing he was going easy on him.

There have also been a couple of times in the recent past where The Thing has worn a helmet. There was a time where he was mutating more but the main reason was when his face was slashed by Wolverine during another stupid whoring use of the character (real FF vs. replacement $$$$ stunt FF of Wolverine, Ghost Rider, Spiderman & the Hulk). Other times The Thing has worn the helmet when he hasn't felt confident about how he looks or when he is just concerned with scaring people.

The last that I looked at the current FF series the Thing is able to control the transformation so he can be Ben Grimm or the Thing whenever.

I think it's because people liked Kara with the white t-shirt on the recent Superman cartoon.

I still like FF is for nothing else then that's where Dr Victor Von Doom was born.

Nowadays...I look at Waid's run and so far not too bad, but I have reservations

That Fake FF bit rings a bell, so that's probably the second one.

The FF has a lot of cool villians and guest stars. It's one of the reasons I liked the book for so long.

I think I have Waid's recent FF storyline with them going into the Negative Zone in graphic novel format.

Another Limited Series Crossover that was perfect:

Grendel/Batman: Hunter Rose vs. Bats.....

No Argent but it was buetiful, a thing of wonder.

I think Rose Goes down in Comic Book history as one of the best Villians ever.

I've got that collection too and I think I saw the comic cover with the two Supergirls at the bookstore. I didn't know they had merged though.

I didn't particularly care for Supergirl with the Flame Wings and Flame Vision. It was getting to far from Supergirl for me and too religious. Hopefully some of that has been fixed/changed now.
