Sony are dirty damn liars. AKA Grammar Nazis ahoy!

Post by weemadando »

News.com.au wrote: Sony Computer Entertainment chief Michael Ephraim says 35per cent of PS3 owners are taking their experience online: a figure he predicts will grow exponentially.
35% of people? Exponential growth? 350% of PS3 owners will take their experience online! HOT DAMN!

And the next line falls into the blatant lie category.

"He says people are beginning to realise they need not be tied to a PC. Unlike the Xbox, the PS3 does not require a computer to connect with the internet. "

Now, I know that News.com.au is a blatant Sony mouthpiece, but even that is horribly skewed.

Aaaah, but 35% squared is 12.25%. Remember where the decimal REALLY is. ;)

If he's using the percentage as shorthand for the absolute number, he's at least delusional without breaking maths.
Unlike the Xbox, the PS3 does not require a computer to connect with the internet.
What's he referring to here? Leeching off the neighbours' Wifi?

Why is Sony in a vendetta against the desktop computer? Do they genuinly believe they can make PCs obsolete?

They've thought that since the PS2. 'Supercomputer'? 'Revolutionise the world'? Remember? :)

Hey, no one accused Sony Execs of being smart. Case in point, SW Galaxies and Everquest II are still selling well enough to justify keeping them on market, that alone would be enough to call them stupid, but throw in that there are a couple of Final Fantasy MMO's and they start looking like 'Stark' Raving Mad Lunatics.(Anyone get the innuendo? :P )

It often seems as if the execs at one division of Sony are trying to improve their performance no matter what it does to the company as a whole.
A case in point would be Sony's surrendering of leadership in the personal audio player market to Apple.
By all rights, Sony should own that market, given their history with the Walkman and their demonstrated ability to make user friendly products.
But thanks to the assholes from the 'content' side of the company, Sony didn't come out with a digital music player that wasn't laden down with proprietary DRM'd to death formats until Apple had total market domination.

People do not understand Sony. Sony should not be described as this single monolithic company. It's a gigantic assed conglomerate that has dozens of sub companies that do everything. Movies, electronic devices, games, you name it, they do it. Frequently, these divisions compete with each other, and force each other to make deals for political reasons.
Anyone tracking the console market will recognise one. Blu-ray on the PS3.

Yes, but in a well run conglomerate, division chiefs will keep the best interest of the corporation as a whole in mind.
You don't see the various divisions of GE engaging in this kind of bullshit, do you?
Sony's execs seem to have the attitude of 'Everything for my little fiefdom, and fuck everyone else'.

And as per Dilbert, it looks to me like the marketing guys are making all the big decisions.

He's referring to the story from this thread, where a man is suing a library, claiming that a book on lesbian sex "traumatized" his two teenage sons.
