Not really. It's not uncommon for American auto makers to use the same name for their European makes. The Fusion used to be pretty small over here too though, come to think of it...Bounty wrote:They sell two different cars under the same name now? Because the only Fusion I know is a lot smaller. It's a strange world. Let's keep it that way.
Ford originally wanted to call the North American sedan the Futura, but could not after losing trademark lawsuit with Pep Boys auto parts. Of course, those names were chosen during the time when Ford had the policy of giving all their cars names starting with "F" (thus limiting their options), which the new CEO Alan Mulally has thankfully put an end to.Bounty wrote:They sell two different cars under the same name now? Not really: Automakers don't refer to their cars internally by name, they use an alphanumeric code: For example, the North American Fusion is known internally as CD338, and the European Fusion is known as B226.That's got to be confusing in internal memos
Er... I'm not aware of Ford ever selling another car called Fusion in North America prior to the current one.Elheru Aran wrote:The Fusion used to be pretty small over here too though, come to think of it...
