The show itself is stupid and boring as hell, but I like the girls in it on a purely sexual basis.
Indeed. Although that doesn't say much; it's very difficult to draw anime characters to be repulsive.

There's Heatguy-J. That one has a completely ugly cast.

Anybody seen Noir? I saw the first few minutes, and it seemed quite good. AFAIK, its about a female assassin and her teaching another 13 year old girl to become one...

I've got the first episode on the January Newtype USA promotional DVD. Haven't watched the actual episode yet, but it has a great opening theme.

Wow, what an obvious rip off of Leon.

That's before it gets weird (I've seen all of it on fansub).

Most anime gets weird sooner or later. Indeed, a normal and blase show with predictable elements is hardly a hallmark of excellence (unless you have TRULY masterful slice of life anime like Only Yesterday or Azumanga Daioh, neither of which would be reccomended to Shep since it requires knowledge of Japanese culture I'm sure he does NOT have.) It begins "normal", and indeed as a parallel to an existing movie. However, after a few episodes it begins to take off in an entirely new direction.

There's Chloe and Altena (Chloe's my avatar), Intocabille, the orginization Soldats, the secret of Noir, death by fork, and thinly veiled lesbianism (NOT between Mirelle and Kirika). In other words, it is not even close to Leon.

Wow, what an obvious rip off of Leon.
Maybe you should look into what the actual plot is instead of making such a blind assumption based off such a minor amount of information...

This is a review and summary of the series. Read it and see if its anything like what you were thinking.

*DOH* How could I have forgotten...

The First Kenshin OVAs!!! If you like historical drama, then this would be perfect. The TV series may not be appropriate, but the OVAs are sutably dark and depressing.

Note, they are on sale in America under the name "Samurai X:Trust" and "Samurai X:Betrayal"

Edit: If you try to find it from . . . unofficial . . . sources, remember that it's the FIRST OVA series, Tsuiokuhen. It has four episodes. Do NOT make the mistake of buying the seond series, Seisouhen, which has two episodes. THAT series is utter crap.

**MORE SPOILER**
It's not the only time. He shoots her again in the series, though that time it's for real (Will of the Universe isn't around to save her, she's being held captive and by a being that can defeat both Nabeshin, Pedro, and Pedro's son.)

Don't diss Pedro. He later acends to semi-omnipotent power.

I never would have expected that Shep likes Excel Saga. I'm quite surprised.

While it does have mecha in it (technically called an Aestivalis), Martian Successor Nadesico is one I'd recommend: solely for the fact that it's often very funny.

While the Aestivalises are used frequently, for most of the time they aren't taken very seriously. And I should warn you that there is an episode where they fight tanks, but it's not worth having a fit/rant over.

One note about Nadesico:

Just remember to watch it in Japanese with subtitles, or you'll miss out on at least half of the dialogue's original meaning, as well at it's charm. It's an ADV dub, so what can I say.

HDS: Of course DYRL? was great - It was Macross.

And you've never heard of it since?

I'm just really anal when it comes to stuff like that, so don't take it too personally.

The point is that we beleive that he is basing his dislike on a limited amount of data. Anime comprises such a large field of various works, that covering it all in a blanket statement of "I don't like it" is rather extreme. This is furthur compounded with the rather distorted view of Anime here, as the general impressions is generally of Dragonball Z, Sailor Moon, Pokemon, or Akira, none of which I would reccomend as examples of high quality anime (yep, I just bashed Akira.) Hopefully, reccomended samples from people more knowledgable about the subject than television executives will give him a better view on Anime in general.
