Had my first session of therapy today...
Started my psychotherapeutic treatment today, and it was interesting as hell. I can't believe my luck in finding the doctor I managed to find. After two weeks of looking up clinical psychologists and counselors, I just happened to find a psychiatrist listed somewhere on the net. He's probably one of four psychiatrists in the city here who practice psychotherapy (instead of medication management only), and he's also the professor of psychiatry at the local university's school of medicine.
Thought I would mention this too; most around here know I have sort of a love/hate relationship with Japan. On the one hand, I had a lot of positive experiences there with wrestling, partying, meeting girls... on the other, going there with my wife now and visiting my in-laws drives me crazy... as does twelve hour plane rides, eating fish for every meal, hitting my head on door frames, having to go with my father in-law to boiling hot springs while being the only white guy naked in a giant pool of sulfuric water...etc. So anyway, after five minutes of talking to my new shrink, I find out he speaks Japanese fluently, goes to Japan often, and is a practicing Buddhist. I can't escape...
Anyway, the first experience was very positive. The guy is a total pro; he makes my primary doctor who manages my medication seem like a novice. For example, my primary doctor recently added another medication to what I take now. With this new medication, I would be taking a total of three separate medications. My new psychiatrist basically said 'less is more,' and advised me to stop taking the new meds and to stick with the one primary medication only.
I'll be seeing him once a week and our new insurance coverage will take care of it. I'm debating on whether I should tell him about peeing in the sink though. I may become normal someday yet! Eh, maybe a tad less crazy anyway...

Is there a particular reason for peeing in the sink? My undergrad dorm, each room had a sink in it and it was a well known fact that a lot of the guys would just use the sink as opposed to walking to the bathroom in the middle of the night. I can't imagine you'd gain much in the way of convenience in a normal house, though.Superman wrote:I'll be seeing him once a week and our new insurance coverage will take care of it. For one, it saves water. I'm saving the environment by peeing in the sink. Have you noticed how much water the toilet uses? Have you considered how much you could save by peeing in the sink? Yeah. Didn't think so...Spin Echo wrote:Is there a particular reason for peeing in the sink? It lines up better with the junk too. I'm pretty tall, so the sink is easy to line up with.

Well...actually pee is pretty sterile, so there really isn't anything wrong with it.
You have to realize that most Christian "moral values" behaviour is not really about "protecting" anyone; it's about their desire to send a continual stream of messages of condemnation towards people whose existence offends them. - Darth Wong alias Mike Wong

Well, I guess that explains the popularity of a certain thing I wish didn't exist. I was wondering why those people weren't racking-up hideous medical bills from infections (if they were, most wouldn't do it).Justforfun000 wrote:Well...actually pee is pretty sterile, so there really isn't anything wrong with it.

Be careful around the medicine spewing dipshit, I just last month did a side-effect look up for an ex-roomate who lacked internet access. The meds the bitch put him on had 'suicidal thoughts' listed as a side-effect, which was one of the symptoms he already had. (thoughts)yes lets put the bi-polar alcoholic with suicidal tendencies on a med that gives people suicidal tendencies, that's just brilliant!!(end stupid)Superman wrote:Anyway, the first experience was very positive. That and they made him to drowsy to work, when he told her so she upped the dosage, that's when he called me. My mother is a nurse in a mental hospital, if I don't know it I at least know who, what, and how to ask.
Sorry about that, the 'med happy' psych-docs are a bitch-slap button for me. My wife has permenant brain damage from being medicated for things she didn't have and wasn't even checked out for. The doctors took her MOTHER"S WORD about what she had. The same woman who denies that Snow may have breathing problems even though her father and brother both have a heriditary breathing ailment and Snow has the exact same symtoms!!! At $1500 for a visit they could have at least pretended compatance.

Actually, the first doc was the one who put me on the other medications. He's not a psychiatrist. My new doctor, a psychiatrist corrected this. I think the moral of the story is to always go to an expert, whenever possible. That's another reason I started with him. Second opinions never hurt either.Setesh wrote: Sorry about that, the 'med happy' psych-docs are a bitch-slap button for me.
Sorry about your negative experiences. Mine have been pretty positive so far; it's too bad things don't always turn out well. Since I started my primary medication two or three years ago, my life has dramatically improved.

I have no doubt of that. I only worry when they start handing out extra pill bottles. It sounds like your new doc actually knows what he's doing and is willing to actually do his job. This should work out well for you, good luck.Superman wrote:Actually, the first doc was the one who put me on the other medications. He's not a psychiatrist.
