Re: Favourite Sounds
Laughter. Dawn chorus. Waves lapping into the shore. V8 engine. My God daughter Sammie trying to say 'Soft' at age 3 (came out as Shoft - very cute). Yuki giving up trying to say Rob and settling for Oby-Chaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan (you really have to hear it to get it.). The purr/sigh thing Sandra does when she cuddles. Klaxons from old war movies (i really want one for a doorbell) last heard on the ship in the American Godzilla movie. The click noise of my left mouse button (very solid, satisfying, positive cli-ick). Babies gurgling. The sound of pages turning in Libraries.Zaia wrote:I'm on the phone with my best friend Katy right now, and she just told me that the sound of my voice was one of her favourite sounds, so I thought I'd ask what some of your favourite sounds are too.

As I was reading this thread, I knew exactly what I was going to put, and couldn't believe my luck that no one had thought of it,
I love the anticipation of a great song.
but I'd also add the intro to any fantastic sogn - Sweet Child O Mine, Poison, Paranoid, all have fantastic intros..until The Yosemite Bear wrote:A very well Performed Guitar Solo (Hey I'm a classic rock fan)

the ocean, low woodwinds and brass and strings, Music (period), the sound of a classy marching band, DCI (Zaia knows where I'm coming from there... nothing like the Blue Devils or Madison doing Malguena with a perfect to-the-fore), rainstorm, long rolling thunder that's miles away, a sweet baby's laugh, my dog when she's stretching and does that moan thing, my ferrets chirping while they play, a dribbling basketball, a soft breeze....
WOOOOOO! Gotta love DCI, baby.Kelly Antilles wrote:the ocean, low woodwinds and brass and strings, Music (period), the sound of a classy marching band, DCI (Zaia knows where I'm coming from there... nothing like the Blue Devils or Madison doing Malguena with a perfect to-the-fore), rainstorm, long rolling thunder that's miles away, a sweet baby's laugh, my dog when she's stretching and does that moan thing, my ferrets chirping while they play, a dribbling basketball, a soft breeze....

Mine would have to be, in no particular order:
thunderstorms, fire crackling, my Aussie friends voices (since I don't get to see them), a well-played cello, a frappuchino bottle being opened, the soft rush of a stream, windchimes, the constant sound of the ocean, a low, growly, sexy laugh, the person I love's voice saying my name, the wind gently tossing leaves on the ground in autumn, train whistles (make me want to travel), accents (especially Russian, Australian and Irish), the Julliard string quartet, my godson's laugh, my cat sneezing, how Bryan sounds on his keyboard when he thinks no one is listening....

I miss my ferrets, Lumpy and Dorko, clever evil little creatures....never did find where they hid my spare set of keys.Kelly Antilles wrote: my ferrets chirping while they play
Back on topic: Crackling of wood in the fireplace, the near silence of a windless winter night in the woods, the contented sigh of a lover as she drifts off into sleep, and bagpipes.

I went to see it last year with my friend Joe for his birthday: it is SO AWESOME!! I'm totally in love with one of the snare drummers who--have you seen it yet, Kel? I don't want to spoil anything for you if you haven't.Kelly Antilles wrote:Oh, slightly off topic, but Blast! is going to be here in February. I'm hoping to talk my hubby into going.

The voice is the best instrument...listen to the choral version of Adagio for Strings featured in Homeworld for evidence. But the violin's pretty badass, too.Durandal wrote:There's nothing quite as emotionally evoking as a well-written violin piece. See "Adiago for Strings" for a good example.
My favorite sound is probably that of a reel-to-reel sound system starting up. It goes from completely alien to completely familiar in a short time span; it's awesome.
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'
