General Grievous died to quickly
Don't you agree he just died way to fast (like darth maul had) and was a very good villain who isn't a stereotype for once (or has been stereotyped to death) overall I think he should have lived and instead of killing him he ran away and went into hiding somewhere.

Except that the trilogy of films that came after Episode III had already been made, and so there was no way to continue any story for the character. Had he simply vanished in an escape ship and was never seen again, the vast majority of people would be like "What the fuck?", even if some book came out detailing what happened.

Every film series needs a big persistent bad guy. The thing about the Star Wars prequels is that it was always Palpatine, not Maul or Grievous or Jango or anyone else.

Well at least grievous shouldn't have died by blaster induced immolation it's far from a respectable (for a major villain blaster death is more of for lesser villains and minions) way to die at least he could have been chopped in half or decapitated or put in maximum security prison for the rest of his days. And Darth Sidious Was the villain in the entire series wether it's behind the scenes or directly he was the villain.

Why is getting decapitated better than getting shot?
I'm actually glad that there was a major villain and a major fight that wasn't a traditional lightsabre slice-fest. I loved how Obi-Wan had to get unconventional there.

My blog, please check out and comment! http://decepticylon.blogspot.comI had no problem with Grievous dying quickly so much as illegitimately: he's supposed to be the CIS's galactic terror, a maniac who's killed even Jedi in melee. Granted, Obi-wan's no random schmuck of a Jedi, but I would have liked to see the General keep his sabers a couple of minutes longer to legitimize him as the big bad he was supposed to be.

I thought Grevious's death was perfect.
He faces Obi-wan, handles a Jedi saber to saber, when the Force was not involved, then beat the living tar out of Kenobi to the point where he had to use a blaster (and we all know how he felt about those) to take him out.
Especially with the entire clone wars cartoon build up of him mowing Jedi down easily, and the fact he mentioned he was collecting Jedi weapons as trophies..

I thought Obi-Wan was getting the best of him sabre-to-sabre in that fight. Doesn't he get rid of two of Grievous' sabres within the first few minutes of the fight, chopping off at least one of his hands?Solauren wrote:He faces Obi-wan, handles a Jedi saber to saber, when the Force was not involved ...

My problem with Grevious was that in the Cartoon, he was a hardcore killing machine. Then, when they put him into the movie, he was kind of a coward. (Not that I would want to face two Jedi, with my Internals being crushed, or risk jumping out the window of a starship in the middle of a battle) Evan in the final battle, he almost immediatly ran away, on the giant walking motor-cycle thingie, although he did almost kill Obi-wan with the whole lifting up crushing neck move. Just remember what Grevious was able to do, evan while he was damaged.

The Star Wars movies have always taken a lot of cues from the old 1930s serials, and Grievous in ROTS fits the archetype of the moustache-twirling, tie-the-girl-to-the-railroad-tracks villian from those films to a T. The Clone Wars cartoons got him wrong.

Are you kidding? Grievous's death was awesome. His eyes exploded.Lord_Sturm wrote:Well at least grievous shouldn't have died by blaster induced immolation it's far from a respectable (for a major villain blaster death is more of for lesser villains and minions) way to die at least he could have been chopped in half or decapitated or put in maximum security prison for the rest of his days. The cough was also awesome. I mean, it didn't make any sense, but that whole character was a cousin of comic relief.

Palpatine, and later Anakin, were the real villains of ROTS, and it's obvious that Grievous wasn't supposed to be the main player. I really think there was a lack of communication between Lucas and the people handling the EU when it came to Grievous's portrayal. The cartoon, comics, etc. portrayed him as a terrifying and unstoppable, with numerous Jedi kills to his credit. In the movie, he was a formidable fighter, but was more of a wily villain who knew when to run and could improvise a means to escape. Mace Windu even refers to him as a "coward." There was a throwaway line about how Count Dooku trained him, but he was bested by Obi-Wan in single lightsaber combat.

I thought General Greivous died the best way in all the movies, all the other characters die pretty conventional deaths, but Greivous, Greivous exploded from the inside out! If thats not a badass death, I dont know what is.

Now that I think about it, every time Obi-Wan has gone up against a bad guy wielding a lightsaber, he's gotten his ass handed to him.

In the movies? Partially yes (partially because Obi-Wan Kenobi did defeat Lord Maul in their duel - admittedly only after Maul had pushed him over the edge of the chasm and was toying with him).DPDarkPrimus wrote:Now that I think about it, every time Obi-Wan has gone up against a bad guy wielding a lightsaber, he's gotten his ass handed to him.

Note, however, that Obi-Wan actually survived that beating and was no worse for the wear. Being kicked so hard that you literally fly across the stage is probably enough to snap a normal person's ribs and give him a concussion on impact; neither happened to the good general insofar as we can tell.Lord_Sturm wrote:In the fist fight between Obi-wan and Grievous Obi-wan got his ass served to him on a silver platter . But we only know this from the clone wars cartoons, which most people didn't watch, there's no way to know that from the films.ColonialAdmiral wrote:What do you mean the cough didn't make sense? He had his fucking insides crushed by the force!
I personally think Lucas should have morphed all three sub villains (Maul, Dooku, Grievous) into one person and have him feature more heavily. One of the big things the prequels lacked in my opinion was a continuous terrifying bad guy, Sidious was just too mysterious and intent on befriending Anakin to be scary.
