The long-rumoured new instalment of Blizzard's massive StarCraft series is set to be unveiled later this month - and it's another massively-multiplayer online game in the style of World of Warcraft, CVG can reveal.
Oh, wait:
Well placed US sources have revealed to us that the StarCraft MMO will be unveiled at an upcoming Blizzard event on May 19 in South Korea - the epicentre of the sci-fi RTS series' rabid fandom.
Don't know how useful this news is, but I'm eagerly looking forward to HOW I MINE VESPENE GAS

Well, as long as it isn't a MMORPG, it should do fine. They didn't say what kind of MMO it would be.

It's Blizzard, 95% certainty their making it a MMORPG, much like the new 40K MMORPG.

"In the style of World of Warcraft" sounds a good deal like a MMORPG. I can see it becoming as if not more popular than WoW, but dunno how the Korean response will be. They could jump ship, or be disappointed it's not an RTS.
South Korea will collectively riot, and Kim Jong-Il, seeing his chance, will commence an invasion. Blizzard will be responsible for Korea War 2.
For the sake of humanity, Blizzard, please no SC MMO.
I can see why they would do it-- I don't think they're even capable of making a good RTS anymore, since most of the developers for their earlier games have left. Their current staff, however, does have plenty of experience at MMO. Unfortunately, I don't think that's what Starcraft players are very interested in.
before, a good bit before, if I'm not mistaken. Not log after WC3 was completed, if my memory serves..
but I could be wrong.

Pfft, they won't riot... they'll just go back to more SC tournaments and pretend SC2 never came out.

This just ruined my day.

Because Blizzard made it profitable. Even a mildly successful MMO will be able to pay for itself easily, if not finance a mid-sized company in it's entirety. Especially since the life span of such a game has yet to be fully realised.
Honestly though, I'd rather a Starcraft MMO end up like Planet Side. I think Blizzard has enough cometence to pull off a concept SoE slaughtered... Even with my abiding hatered of Blizzard for still existing while Westwood & Cave Dog died out. And there're never enough good FPS games out there. (Hell, I'm waiting for the HL2 mod scene to finally get going...)
