ABC has the whole debate up in video (unfortunately, in little pieces).

EDIT: Apparently not the whole debate, but most of it. Certainly more than the little clips from before.

Rabid? How so?[/quote]

The goal of the RRS seems to have been to piss off as many theists as possible. On the MySpace forums Brian would post a lot of flame bait, and didn't seem really interested in reaching out to people. You piss people off, and you significantly reduce the possibility that they might listen to you.

Precisely; I cannot imagine atheists such as that are much higher on the respect-list of your average American than the Phelps clan. Both are seen as hateful, religiously radical groups that most people don't identify with. Above all, it is okay to hate both groups.

Phelps et. al. do not take down their faith with them because of the penchant of laymans to resort to the no-true-scotsman. Atheists at large, be they 'evangelical' or 'closeted' or whatever, have no built-in sympathy whatsoever.

Could you give an example?

I provided an analogy, and if you whine and cry about the fact that I described us atheists as "religiously radical" you're not at all trying to imagine this from the POV of most people.

Also, Kirk Cameron will be debating atheists (I don't know who) on ABC Nightline tonight. As a prep of sorts, he scheduled an interview with Bill O'Reilly.

It is in itself unimpressive as Cameron simply trots out ridiculously over-covered strawmans of evolution, the essence of intelligent design (of course, he used the EYE as an example )... for once I don't have to rehash a poorly described summary, as I uploaded the video myself.

That was the psychological equivilant of getting my nuts run over by an SUV. I mean fuck me, O'Reilly thinks he beat Dawkins after he gave him next to no chance to reply?

Cameron's bit with the croci-duck made me both guffaw and die a little inside. The only people he ever proves wrong are the people who think he can't get more annoying/retarded/[insert insulting adjective here].

I don't think I can force myself to watch the entire debate with the RRS and the evangelicals. Not only have I heard all of the theists' arguments before and not only were the arguments stupid to begin with, but I find the atheist woman is a bit of a pain to listen to for some reason.

Actually, the atheist side is doing quite well. The woman actually brought up a lot of good refutations I've seen here a lot. I wonder if she's a member...
You have to realize that most Christian "moral values" behaviour is not really about "protecting" anyone; it's about their desire to send a continual stream of messages of condemnation towards people whose existence offends them. - Darth Wong alias Mike Wong

I don't even know what the fuck you're arguing here, I just asked for an example of his flame baiting.

From what I watched they did better than I expected, although I was also expecting Cameron and Comfort to come up with something apart from their usual drivel.

I also suppose I've grown a little too accustomed to Dawkins' and Sam Harris' level of eloquence when listening to such debates or speechs.

I'll have to dig through a lot of MySpace posts so I might just PM it to you when I find it...

I loved how the atheist left the christians speechless towards the end.
And it seems like the public is turning against them as well from the clips of the second part.

Oops, I thought you questioned Sith's conclusion, that those tactics are counter-productive.

I thought it reliable enough to rely on Sith's word on the fact that they do act that way, it wouldn't be the 1st person on this forum to say so I believe. The YouTube atheists thread touched on the RSS & Blasphemy Challenge stuff, Sith's claims are just more corroboration that they act like damn fools.

In the end, it degenerated into "It's in the bible! It's true! Read it and be converted!" while the atheist looked impatient and answered that they had in fact read the bible multiple times.

The part with the photoshopped animals (bull-frog etc...) was pretty painful to watch. Ironicly, it would prove a designer if such creatures existed
