An Introduction to Planetary Defense AKA Google Books rocks

Link

Only about half of it is on there, but still pretty good for a starter discussion. I'm trying to find the whole thing now, as it is a nonfiction quais science book like Mining the Sky or Zubrin's books it is probably available free on arxiv or something.

Anywho, discuss.

He could be looking for new sexual partners
Oooook then. There's a plot for the start of a war I hadn't considered before.

Why? You really think that the "carry off their women" part of "kill their men and carry off their women" was not a major consideration in the old days of tribal warfare?

Granted biology differences make it pointless here, but it seems to be more a thought excersize on all possible motivations for war.

Just never thought about it in terms of alien invasion because of the biological differences.

It strikes me that if said alien (or a small group of aliens) were "just bored" as it mentions, we need not go to war. There are likely people on this planet willing to indulge them. By the same token, if it's genetic diversity they require, we can probably provide that without necessarily needing to go to war. Technically, it does belong in the "list to gain" section, but it's one of the lesser problems to solve without leading to a war.
