What do you think the best mmorpg game is?

I'm totally with you. I know it's just nostalgia, but damn was Everquest at least fun up until Luclin.InnocentBystander wrote:Call me crazy, but I had a lot of fun back in the early days of Everquest. It got stale, as all MMOs do, but there were a few months there where it was just a really great game. WoW was fun, but I just really enjoyed the early days of Everquest.

Maybe YOU would spend "cash illegaly purchasing uber-items and gold" but that sort of bullshit I would not do - because to me it defeats the purpose of playing a game in the first place. Why pay money then cheat? It's stupid. You don't need to to do that to enjoye the game. And if you can't enjoy a game without cheating you maybe need to find a different game.SilverWingedSeraph wrote:I don't touch MMO's. They're evil, soul-sucking monstrosities. First, you buy the game. Then you pay monthly fees. Then you waste cash illegaly purchasing uber-items and gold. Then you waste your life away, doing raids with your clan while neglecting your girlfriend/wife/children.
And there's no excuse for neglecting family - I've heard the same complaint about message boards, e-mail, pornography, and just about any other hobby a person might have. 12 year olds might have the problem, but adults should have some self-control, and most of us do. For that matter, you can set WoW on a timer to help you with your self-control.

Now I did a job. I got nothing but trouble since I did it, not to mention more than a few unkind words as regard to my character so let me make this abundantly clear. I do the job. Well in some MMOs this 'cheating' is really just a 'grind tax' - it allows you to enjoy the later parts of the game without doing a few dozen raids etc to try and get good stuff. If someone wants to pay money to skip the lame, repeditive boring part of an MMO, what's wrong with that?
I'm heavily against cheating in 'regular' games, but I don't really see this as cheating at all. Enjoying an MMO *IS* a constant battle against tiresome grinding bullshit and constant raiding.

For me, the fun part of MMO's were the initial exploration when you're not yet intimately familiar with the gameworld, and taking risks by hunting in areas too high level. After a few days or weeks, I've explored most of the world and the death penalty is too high for me to want to take any risks, so the game gets stale fast. I like free MMO's where I can play one for a few days or weeks until it gets old, and then if I'm still in an MMO mood, I'll just hop to another one and repeat the process.

I played the 10 day trial of LOTR online and it didn't seem bad, but I can't really see myself taking it up. I have the option to buy the full game and pay £100 for a lifetime membership but I don't think I will.....
Guild Wars I've got, but it got tiresome.
There's quite a few titles missing from that list that are notable/notorious, Everquest 1/2, Dark Age of Camelot, Star Wars Galaxies, Anarchy Online to name a few.

Got a free 14 day trial of Dark age Of Camelot today. Playing a Hibernian, well I have to given where I'm from.
So far it's not really blowing up my skirt. The graphics and gameplay would have been impressive 5 years ago. But I demand a little more from an MMO now. Gonna stick out the 2 week trial but doubt I'll actually pay to play it.

What server? Unless you are playing classics you are hurting yourself. Try Midgard Ector
Everquest held my attention longer than anything else on the list did. I played it for . . . About 5 and a half years if I remember right (and off and on for a month here or there since then.) Arthur_Tuxedo hit the nail on the head for me, the most entertaining part of the game was exploration. The world was MASSIVE, at least compared to any other game I had played, and there was always something interesting hidden around the next corner. As a Rogue, I was able to get into all sorts of fun spots, usually at a much lower level than I should have been.
Maybe it was just because it was my first online game, but nothing since then has really held my attention. City of Heroes/Villains is fun, especially the character creation, but it gets to be too grindy after a few months and I quit again. WoW never really held my interest for more than a month or so at a time, I'm just not into raiding and that seems to be all there is to do at the top end of the game.
If anyone around here still plays or wants to start up again I just resubscribed a few weeks ago and I'm having a ball. Currently I'm playing on Firiona Vie as Thoggok, an Ogre Beastlord. I'm fresh on this server, so if anyone wants to get together just send me a tell.

DAOC in it's hayday with decent population up to Shrouded Isles is in my mind the greatest MMO that's been out. It's the only game where they build up realm community and support. No game has brought that feeling back, everything now is about making your character uber and it's not in your interest to help others.
"Somehow I feel, that in the long run, Thanos of Titan came out ahead in this particular deal."
Normal, Roleplay, PvP and Co-Op servers have the ability for people who have a toon on any server, except Test, that is level 50 to start any new toons at level 20.
On classic, everyone starts at level 1 and it's so easy to get characters finished that there are constant rerolls.
If you want to play hibernia, roll on the Gareth server. I can recommend a few fun character classes and PL you/gear you out for one of the more fun battlegrounds there. I should still have my Vampiir and cash there.

The one that isn’t played and has its box rot on the shelf. The Battlefield series is the closest thing to a mmorpg I can stand.

Anything that reminds me of all the lame synonyms for 'avatar' various internet cliques use is bad. 'Av' won the war, but resistance will always remain.General Schatten wrote:Yeah, my toons are fucking awesome, hold on gotta go grind and get some lewt and xp.
LAME resistance.
I liked EQ and SWG. At some point EQ just got too big for its own good. I have to agree that making Jedi a regular profession in SWG was a mistake.
I play wow because its what my friends are playing.
I would still play Jumpgate if I had the cash to keep my account active because I love space sims.
LOTR was ok, but why switch games when you got everything set up in wow?
