The crosses of a Moscow orthodox temple have been fitted with ultra-sharp razors to wound pigeons who want to sit on the cross, so that they can't shit on it.
Insignificant news, but really, a brilliant solution. The image of a cross with killer razors is just in a class of it's own, that's why I posted it.

Looking at it, it seems to have only a few razors - surely the birds will still be able to land on it, simply less of them as they avoid the razors? It doesn't seem very effective to me.
Depends on the scale of the cross and the way birds land. I think the large size of the razors is aimed at hurting them when they are approaching and landing, even before they touch down.

razors like this are quite effective. they have them all over light posts and piles in the harbors. I do like the symbolism though.

It's funny, but I remember seeing some dead, impaled pigeons, on some similar (but smaller) spikes that are on the Grace Cathedral Church in San Francisco.

They've had something like this at the public library downtown for awhile. Except instead of a handful of razors, above the main entrance there's dozens of needles sticking out of it, spaced just close enough to make it inconvenient for the fuckers to land on.
