Mass Producing Mandalorian Iron
Mandalorian Iron, called Bekar by it's makers, is a nearly indestructible, lightsaber resistant metal alloy that was surprisingly light. My question is? Could it be mass-produced? I'm leaning on yes, owing to the fact that the Neo-Crusaders were obviously capable of doing so, however, some cite that as owing to the resources the Mandalorians acquired during the four year Great Sith War when the Crusaders fought alongside Exar Kun and Ulic Qel-Droma. Obviously this is rediculous, since not only did they wear a much more primative armour, but the resources they'd stolen from the Republic were reclaimed and the Crusaders all but wiped out. So, what would stop the Republic from mass producing it and including the alloy as a component of a new form of plastoid for the Clone Troopers and Storm Troopers? They have Jango there who designed there armour and his own is said to be made of Mandalorian Iron, they also have the rest of the Cuy'val Dar, why wouldn't Palpatine jump at the chance to have his elite troops equipped with this uber armour?

How good is this stuff against blasters? What thickness do you need to stop a blaster rifle? Or an E-web? Does it work as starfighter armour (where weight as well as toughness is critical)? How does it compare to 'impervium', 'quantum crystalline armour', 'molecularly bonded armour', 'phrik alloy' etc?

Well, let's see, Lumiya's lightwip was made from it and the metal lashes were sheathed in the same energy as a lightsaber when it turned on. Also, Freedon Nadd's tomb was encased in it to protect it from when the moon it was on, Dxun, would pass close enough to Onderon that the atmospheres would touch and flying wildlife could migrate back and forth, obviously causing some problems with the gravity. That's about all I know, unless someone has Republic Commando: Triple Zero and tell us how effective Walon Vau's saber was.

I await what further insults to European and Japanese fuedalistic history the EU has in store for us. What next? Lightsaber spearmen?
As for the uber armor, it's possible that the supply was lost throughout the thousands of years between the Mandolorian wars and CW. Or that advances in lightsaver technology made it impractical. Unless Vader's armor was a kind of Mandolorian armor.

Best care anywhere.
I could take the whip if it was just the braided metal (or what ever it is), it's the lightsaber aspect that...gah's... me.

There were a small handful that escaped the Purge, but most of them, like Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda, were secreted on remote, Rim-ward planets, determined to keep below Imperial notice. Very few of them would actually seek out and engage Imperial soldiers, hardly enough to justify outfitting their soldiers with lightsaber-resistant armor.ColonialAdmiral wrote:It's pretty Impractical though to equip all your troops with it. And in the Original Triology, There aren't really any Jedi left...Are there?
There have been specialized units equipped with that sort of protection, like the CIS Cortosis battle droids, or Desaan's Shadowtroopers, but they make use of other lightsaber-resistant substances, like cortosis and phrik. Perhaps those metals are simply more abundant, durable, or cost-efficient than Mandalorian Iron.

Possibly, she was shot down in a Rebel TIE/ln that was used in an attempt at infiltrating an Imperial Fleet, however she flew into Lukes flightpath and he couldn't identify her because a creature called a Teezl disrupted his equipment, so he shot her down using the force to identify his enemies (She registered as an enemy because she'd infiltrated the Rebel forces to kill Luke under the order of Vader) and she barely survived because of the genetic modification she'd had.Knife wrote:What are you saying? Re: Mass Producing Mandalorian Iron
It was a closely kept secret and may have been restricted to include materials found only on Mandalore. It should still be possible to synthesize artificially, but that's not the same as saying it would be economically viable to synthesize and mass-produce mandametal. Perhaps it could be done but other materials would likely suffice in most cases with greater cost-efficiency.General Schatten wrote:Could it be mass-produced? Its probably just not cost effective to mass produce and equip, and does not compare favorably against conventional threat types for its weight and other handling characteristics.
