(Mostly) Complete gallery of Transformers 2007 cast

Post by Acidburns »

A friend just sent me this link, and while there has been some pictures of the new transformer designs, I don't remember seeing anything besides Bumblebee, Megatron and Optimus Prime.

Link

Ironhide seems well armed. Looks like some sort of missile weapon on his right arm? Megatron's face seems a bit too human, but his head shape is reminiscent of the classic Megatron. I'm not too keen on Starscream either. While they are quite cool, I really have trouble imagining them speaking.

If I had to choose two as my favourites, I'd say Blackout and Jazz, perhaps because they are a bit more chunky.

Even if the movie turns out to be crap, It will be worth going just to see the glorious CGI. The robots look Bizzare and Alien, a very welcome change.

As a note, Bumbblebee has his licinse plate as a Cod Piece.

Bumblebee also can't talk. Looking at these designs and remembering how they're supposed to be 'realistic' just makes me laugh long and cynical.

From the prequel thingy, I thought more of them had arms that tranformed into guns, and I didn't know Prime had his pointy ears.

I'd have zero interest in seeing the movie if the trailers didn't show fucking amazing CGI. I've never seen such complex metallic objects so well blended into a real setting. The designs might be stupid, but they look good reflecting explosions and having eight million points of sunflare. :D

Not too bad, and the first time I've actually seen anything of Jazz.

Could be really, really worse, though.

I wasnt impressed with the designs of Megatron i saw elsewhere but now that i see it in a different position, i can imagine it moving. I really like it actually, it makes them look more...militarized...like people who actually have been fighting a war for like a billion years or whatever (how long is that war again? Wasnt it going on before humans evolved on Earth?) and Prime looks pretty cool too. I'm glad they kept his little pointy elf-truck ears. :)

I like 'em; not too bad overall. Megs still needs a fusion cannon, but that's just me.

Bumblebee's junk is just weirding me out.

I don't really mind the new forms, but some of them look a bit too "busy" for me. I don't think they should be too overly blocky like the cartoons, but these seem a bit too segmented with weird bits coming out at angles. Especially a couple near the end.

So militarised they are covered in a tiny mosaic of metal sheets that fit together perfectly to make solid shapes. This is 'realistic', just as using a tyre as a hip joint is 'realistic'.

If we don't get this incredibly delicate and detailed system damaged and someone transforming and missing part of the external disguise I'll be upset. Imagine how awesome that would be, an F-22 missing bits of it's skin all over the place but still working due to realistic ubertechnology. :)

In Generation One, the Great War began on Cybertron nine million years ago. The Ark crash-landed on Earth four million years ago, and the Great War sort of cooled off three and a half million years ago when Cybertron went through the Big Shutdown, going hot again in 1984 when those in the Ark finally came out of stasis lock.

Many of them transform arms into guns, so Megatron probably does. Bumblebee sure does in the comic prequel.

I've seen a concept shot for Meg's cannon. His arm kinda becomes it the way the crappy terminator from T3 forms her plasma cannon. At least that's what it looked like.

And Bumblebee has missile racks.

Some of them look good, but as Transformers characters, I still don't like them. Especially for characters like Ironhide if they're not going to preserve the form they should at least have preserved the colour. And not given him a Megatron style arm cannon.

Prime's face still looks retarded. Hopefully once the eyes are lighted they'll look better (or given a 'cover').

Yeah they don't look like they'd hold up to damage too well.

The designs are way too busy. They've all got weird projections and openings in the armour seemingly just for the hell of it. And exposed mechanical componnents? In war-bots? Ideal for being severed by any random shot?

The last one's Frenzy. And this is nowhere near a complete cast.
Not too bad, and the first time I've actually seen anything of Jazz.
No one has seen much of Ratchet or Brawl either. But I think it's good that they are keeping most of them under wraps. Keep them as as surprise.

God, Bumblebee looks like he has a camel toe. I just can't look away....

I suppose I did.
The only other one i've seen was when I was younger, but they all transformed into animals, not people.

So then what is Optimus Prime in this movie?
The only preview I saw was in a movie theater a few months back, that had a transformer trashing a mars rover.

That was Beast Wars. And that was Optimus Primal. Not the same bot.

He's a truck. Specifically, a Peterbilt in the movie.

The producers have since said that the content of that particular trailer (specifically, that was the teaser trailer) will have absolutely nothing to do with the actual final film.

The designs don't really do anything for me. Sure, I suppose they are alien, but they just look stupid, as well. Bits and pieces ... bleh. It could be a whole lot worse, though. I guess I'll have to see what they look like in action more. Maybe all the things I don't like about them will be hidden in motion.

This is what 3D modellers tend to produce unless you have a strong art director who reins them in; overly busy, overly complicated and somewhat implausible screenshot-fodder. It looks like it's expressly designed to show off the CGI and nothing else. That look would be good for mid-transform or damaged characters, but I don't like it as the main movie look. For one thing characters that complex to the eye aren't iconic and instantly recognisable (unless you've memorised the colour coding) the way the originals were.

In the couple of comics I've read, the designs have been 'streamlined', so rather than being a Terminator with bits of fibreglass glued on they're more of a funny shaped robot. All the designs look better with a tone-down on the detail and random bits everywhere, which was either a deliberate decision or simple comic-art limitations. :) Some of the designs (like 'lolz lets have a triple joint leg' Starscream) show clear signs of artist 'wow wouldn't this be cool' effects. :)

I feel the need to reiterate that these designs are what Micheal Bay calls 'realistic'. ;)
