As a soon to be beekeeper I like to read about all of the wonderful things the bees give us:

Maybe you can help figure out what's causing CCD while you're at it.

"This is not bad; this is a conspiracy to remove happiness from existence. It seeks to wrap its hedgehog hand around the still beating heart of the personification of good and squeeze until it is stilled."

I haven't heard anything conclusive about CCD (Colony Collapse Disorder). Theories range from fungus, pesticides, overheated and poor quality high fructose corn syrup, antibiotics to cell phones (this one strikes me as complete nonsense). At this point, it could be any of these things, or some combination thereof. Hopefully they'll figure it out, I'm scheduled to get my bees this week and I don't want them flying off on me!

This has been in my thoughts since the first time I heard about colonies dying off, and how the bees just vanish.
Rudyard Kipling wrote:The Bee Boy’s Song
From "Puck of Pook's Hill"
BEES! Bees! Hark to your bees !
“Hide from your neighbours as much as you please,
But all that has happened, to us you must tell,
Or else we will give you no honey to sell!”
A maiden in her glory,
Upon her wedding-day,
Must tell her Bees the story,
Or else they’ll fly away.
Fly away—die away—
Dwindle down and leave you!
But if you don’t deceive your Bees,
Your Bees will not deceive you.
Marriage, birth or buryin’,
News across the seas,
All you’re sad or merry in,
You must tell the Bees.
Tell ’em coming in an’ out,
Where the Fanners fan,
’Cause the Bees are just about
As curious as a man!
Don’t you wait where trees are,
When the lightnings play,
Nor don’t you hate where Bees are,
Or else they’ll pine away.
Pine away—dwine away—
Anything to leave you!
But if you never grieve your Bees,
Your Bees ’ll never grieve you.
Nitram, slightly high on cough syrup: Do you know you're beautiful?
Me: Nope, that's why I have you around to tell me.
Nitram: You -are- beautiful. Anyone tries to tell you otherwise kill them.
