Hey, everyone! I'm back from my camping trip. It was huge fun, but my buttocks is well and truly tired of sleeping on the ground.

Anyway, I emailed my .emp file to Tux, and just got done catching up in the thread. Sorry, Tux -- didn't know you wanted me to include my user name in the name of my .emp file, but you can just type it in, I hope. Let me know if you want me to email you another copy, with my PBW name in the title.

Super awesome HW shipset, Covenant. I cannot wait to get on and play around with that.

On the whole atmosphere thing -- I've gone Ice/Oxygen. I figured it worked -- less population stress, plus I'm playing a crystalline race -- Ice beings, if you will.

Well, good luck everyone! Can't wait to get started. In the meantime, I'm off to take a well-needed shower.

I'm still on a 2000 operating system, so Its a Pain in the ass to get things zipped up. :D

Empire uploaded to the SEV PBW site.

Be sure to DL and install this new empire to see my ships correctly, if you haven't already. :P

Brian, Covenant, and SeonSei still need to upload their .emp files to PBW. It won't let me start the game without them.

I have the following custom ship sets installed:
  • Romulan
    Ur-Quan
    Galactic Empire
    Davion
    Hiigaran
    Gallente
If you don't see yours, let me know ASAP.

I plan to start in exactly 2 hours, 49 minutes.

brianeyci wrote:I don't think you have anything to worry about Covenant. You've got Nephtys. Out of the people I know here in skill level I'd rank in order of Tuxedo, Trogdor, Nephtys (and by extension you), maybe all the PBW people, then me and the totally new people. Mostly because I know Tuxedo is a hardass and played a PBW game to finish, and Trogdor has played single player up to sphereworld, and Nephtys no doubt has hundreds of hours in simulations to figure out some crazy ass way to beat combined arms. But it'll be all about politics, no matter how good a player is at min/maxing, Balance Mod is balanced enough so if someone goes 2 v 1 I'm pretty sure the 1 will have a hard time fending it off.
Yeah, I'm so good that I always lose. :P

And I remember Covenant being the one who came out of nowhere with a huge force that I had no answer for in the second Star Trek game, so I wouldn't misunderestimate his skillifications. In my experience, I'd say Nephtys is the most skilled player, but we'll see who comes out on top. With this many players, the politics might get deeper than just half the players on one team vs the other half on the other. I'm looking forward to 3 or 4 cabals duking it out, making and breaking alliances, etc.

Thank you, Tux!

And I'm having problems with piece-o-shit-land's website. Otherwise known as the PBW place. I can't upload my shipset. So I don't know what I'm going to do. I uploaded my Empire file but I'd really like to be able to correctly fill out those form fields with my shipset. However, I can't. What bullshit. These guys gotta fix their site.

Use IE. If all else fails, use the text-based version.

Most of my problems came from not using IE.

SeonSei left a post on the game forum. He's still having trouble registering here. I told him to send his .emp file and shipset to Tux, pronto.

And on the subject of which planet type/atmosphere, I'm taking good old rock/oxygen. To the best of my knowledge, all of the races of the Heirarchy were O2 breathers, plus, I'm rather reluctant to pick a different combination right now. I tried rock/hydrogen once back in the Adamant mod game and it turned out to be a big mistake, since most of the big hydrogen worlds were gas giants. Most of the rocky hydrogen planets were moon-sized.

Yeah, I picked rock oxygen too.

SeonSei has to upload his file to PBW too. Tux can't do it for him.

What is the deal on mines? Are they as powerful as I think they are in the combat map, or just a gimmick? If it's just a gimmick that's easily beaten I have no problem with them, but if ten loaded minesweeper ships take out 100 dreadnaughts it's pretty broken (depending on the cost.) What about ancient race, and tech trading treaties? In other words, are we using a customized version of BM?

Having 14 people download a custom version is a bit much, I'd say. We'll just ban the combat use of mines if it becomes a problem. The next version of BM is supposed to drastically reduce the combat launch rate of mines, anyway.

We could request an agreement not to use them in combat like that. Are people so desperate for a win that they'll exploit them, even if they know anyone else could exploit it too, and nobody will think that's any fun? ;p

Well then might as well make it formal.

I suggest the following rules: all ships with minelaying components cannot be set to "do not get hurt."

EDIT: You know what fuck it. If it's as good as it's supposed to be it'll take a whole fleet of them going at don't get hurt, and they'll have to research large mine and warhead 11. And it's not offensive at all. I don't really care if someone tries it.

In the next balance mod(1.07), mines will be visible in combat, and be able to be shot with PD. :D
Sweet no?

Kickoff extended to 30 minutes from now to give SeonSei one last chance.

Hey Tux, are you sure 1.35 works with balance 1.06? Every time I try to start up a new game to test some stuff, I get a "File Missing" error, apprently "d:\program" is missing...

I figured out what that problem is.

Apparently not all shipset creators include AI files with their shipsets. It's compatible for sure. If you start the game over and over, eventually it'll work because neutral or ai empires won't use the problematic shipset. Or just set no neutrals and no ais just for the hell of it, and it'll work.

The problem will be finding which shipset creator fucked up. I suggest deleting all non-stock shipsets and installing shipsets as you need them.

Wasn't me! I included all the files it should need. Do people have links to all their custom shipsets so we can all download them?

Lol it's not you for sure man, because I don't even have your shipset installed yet :).

I think Tuxedo will give us a link to all the shipsets, one bigass zip. I don't like the idea of going to a dozen different places, so let's hope that's what happens.

I think Tux will be sending us a .zip with all of the non-stock shipsets, right? Anyway -- if BM 1.07 is savegame compatible with 1.06, we should be able to switch over midgame, right?

No custom ship sets yet, but I do have the flags thing. Deleting them did the trick.

Including the flags, shipsets, models, AI files, etc. in one monolithic folder called "Empires" was a really bad idea, I think.

Anyway, I'm trying to start the game, but battlestarcommander's .emp can't be loaded because it's spent too many research points. We're doing none, not low, as was pointed out and clarified more than once many days ago. I'll give another 30 mins to fix it by sending the updated .emp to me, otherwise you'll have to get in on the next game (which probably won't be too long before starting as there are usually 2 concurrent games, so don't despair too much).

In the mean time, I am uploading the ship sets to this URL. It will be finished roughly 20 mins after this post.

Yeah gups tried to tell shep when he popped his head in, guess the flagpack is still busted damn.

Just noticed Tux kicked SeonSai, too bad. Well... LET'S GET IT ON NAH NAH NAH NAH EH EH EH GOODBYE! or something like that.

What do you expect me to get excited over a game that's going to last possibly well over a year?

Of course. Especially since my evil plan part 1. is already in motion hahaha.

SeonSai seemed very nice, but a person does have a responsibility to get their own act together. If someone can't manage to register on SDN, and then doesn't get their .emp in on time despite being online and asking questions on the game's forum, then I just can't bring myself to inconvenience everyone else on their behalf.
